The City of Lugano Police has marked a new milestone in the digital age, announcing the launch of the first electronically signed document in Ticino. This innovative initiative, scheduled for March 27, lifts the veil on a further step towards the complete digitalisation of administrative procedures, making the process of obtaining the domicile certificate for residence in another municipality more accessible and efficient.

After inaugurating the first digital practices in 2023, the City of Lugano confirms itself as a pioneer in the Ticino public administration, opening the doors to a series of new digitalized services. Thanks to the close collaboration with IT Division of the City of Lugano, this ambitious project has already seen the light with the introduction of nine digital processes, including the recent certificate of domicile for residence.

The adoption of this new automated procedure, accessible via the City's online help desk, promises to significantly simplify citizens' lives. In addition to the convenience of being able to choose between the paper or electronic version of the certificate, equipped with a regulated electronic seal to guarantee its authenticity and integrity, this service offers numerous advantages, including 24/7 access, real-time verification of data, online payment and instant document generation.

This new method of issuing the domicile certificate effectively solves the problems related to the mobility of citizens, allowing them to obtain the document without time or place constraints. With an eye to the future, the Inhabitant Control Office is committed to further expanding the offer of documents available in electronic format in the coming months.

Beyond simple administrative practices, this digitalisation project represents a significant step towards achieving the strategic objectives outlined in the 2018-2028 Development Guidelines. Through a better provision of services, an increase in the security and quality of information, as well as a reduction in administrative costs and the use of paper, digital transformation is confirmed as a catalyst for a more efficient and sustainable future for the City of Lugano and for the entire Ticino community.
