After its debut last season, Uber Mountain Bike returns to the Lugano area with the aim of making it easier for two-wheel enthusiasts to get around some of the main mountain biking trails. The initiative, created in collaboration with Lugano region, will be available during the summer and autumn of 2026 and aims to strengthen the region's cycling tourism offering.
The service was created to meet the needs of those who wish to reach the trails without using a private car, by providing vehicles equipped with certified bike racks that can be booked directly. via the Uber app.
An ever-expanding network of routes
The Lugano area boasts one of the most extensive mountain bike networks in Switzerland. The region offers over 400 kilometers of official trails, six e-MTB routes with charging stations, and four gravel trails.
The region's climatic characteristics also allow for cycling throughout most of the year, extending the season well beyond that typical of the higher Alpine resorts.
According to the Lugano Region, this combination of infrastructure, services, and favorable conditions represents one of the key elements on which to build the growth of cycle tourism in the coming years.

Among the routes that are once again taking centre stage is the Lugano Bike n. 66, an itinerary that crosses the Val Colla connecting Monte Tamaro with the Malcantone hills.
Alongside the already known tracks, the new one also debuts eBike / Gravel & Taste – Monte Bar Experience, an offer that combines a bike excursion with the discovery of local food and wine excellences.
In this case, Uber Mountain Bike makes it easy to reach the starting point in Capriasca, also offering an opportunity for those arriving in Ticino by train or other public transport.
How Uber Mountain Bike works
The service appears directly in the Uber app as a dedicated category and is available in the city of Lugano.
The vehicles, driven by professional drivers, are equipped with certified bike racks that allow the safe transport of up to two bicycles per vehicle.
The fare is slightly higher than a traditional UberX ride and allows you to reach some of the access points to cycling routes in the area.
Departure points include Lugano SBB station, Bioggio, and Tesserete, with connections to the Monte Bar and San Lucio areas, as well as the Val Colla, Capriasca, and Malcantone regions.
The strategy for two-wheeled tourism
For Uber, the return of the service represents confirmation of the results achieved during the first year of operation.
Jean-Pascal Aribot, General Manager of Uber Switzerland, emphasizes how the initiative has demonstrated that a flexible, on-demand transportation system can make it easier to discover a region while also encouraging the development of outdoor tourism.
The Lugano Region also sees the project as a useful tool for improving the visitor experience. Director Massimo Boni emphasizes how the collaboration allows even those arriving in the region without a car to access the trails quickly and easily, fitting into a broader strategy dedicated to developing mountain biking in the Lugano area.
