Combining the train journey with a group or family activity based on puzzles, observation, and storytelling. This is the goal of Mysteries of Centovallina, the new offer dedicated to passengers of the Vigezzina-Centovalli Railway, which transforms the journey between Locarno and Camedo into an investigative journey inspired by escape rooms and modern digital treasure hunts.

The initiative expands the tourist experiences linked to the historic railway line, inviting participants of all ages to experience the journey in a different way, becoming protagonists of a story that unfolds along the way.

An investigation that takes place during the journey

The experience is built around an investigative plot in which participants are challenged to gather clues, interpret documents, and solve a series of puzzles. The journey is intertwined with the territory the train passes through: stops, environments, and details observed along the route become crucial elements in advancing the investigation.

The digital component plays a central role thanks to a dedicated app, used in conjunction with a paper kit containing letters, images, and other essential materials to solve the mystery. The game's progression thus stems from the interaction between smartphones, physical documentation, and direct observation of what is encountered along the way.

A different way to experience the Vigezzina-Centovalli Railway

According to FART director Claudio Blotti, the project aims to offer a more participatory experience than traditional train travel, showcasing the characteristics of the railway line through a narrative that directly engages passengers.

The idea is to bring different audiences together to discover the railway line, making the territory an integral part of the story and gaming experience.

Designed for friends, families and couples

Mysteries of Centovallina It was designed primarily for small groups. The organization recommends teams of four or five people for each activation code, although couples or families can also participate.

The total duration is about half a day and the game is available in four languages: Italian, German, French and English, so that it can also be used by international visitors.

Costs and methods of participation

For the launch the game is offered at the price of 25 Swiss francs, a price that includes the digital activation code and the paper kit needed to carry out the survey.

The train ticket between Locarno and Camedo is not included and must be purchased separately through FAIRTIQ, SBB, or at authorized sales points.

To allow the entire investigative process to be completed, two possible time slots are suggested:

  • departure at 11:21 with return to 15:37.

Before departure, it is advisable to check any updates to the train timetable by consulting https://www.ffs.ch.

A project developed in collaboration

The initiative is the result of a collaboration between FART, Studio Macaco, and RSI.
