Against the splendid backdrop of Lake Lugano, one of Ticino's most renowned hotels returns to its former glory. After five months of closure, the Swiss Diamond Hotel It officially reopened to the public after a modernization project that involved the entire building. This is the first complete renovation since its inauguration in 2000, a step that the management defines as strategic for the future of the facility.
The project involved 87 rooms and suites, the lobby, reception, wellness area, and the main technical infrastructure, covering a total area of over 9.000 square meters. The goal was to consolidate the hotel's positioning as a resort overlooking Lake Lugano, adapting spaces and services to the contemporary standards of high-end hospitality.
«With this project we wanted to go beyond a simple renovation, creating a complete, elegant and coherent experience», explained Canio Sabia, Cluster General Manager of Swiss Diamond Hotels, underlining the desire to integrate aesthetics, functionality and comfort in a single renewal process.
Redesigned rooms and common areas
The heart of the project was the guest rooms, which were completely renovated in terms of furnishings and finishes. The corridors, floors, and elevators were also updated, along with the lobby, which was redesigned to offer a more harmonious and functional first impression. The focus was not only on aesthetics, but also on the quality of the guest experience.
At the same time, a major upgrade of the ventilation, heating, and air conditioning systems was carried out, in addition to the strengthening of the Wi-Fi infrastructure and fire prevention systems. A total of 150 new sanitary fixtures were installed, 250 integrated spotlights low energy consumption and 30 internal inverter units were installed for temperature management. 100 doors were also replaced or renewed.
Among the materials used, the installation of stands out 350 square meters of Sicilian marble, for a total weight of 22 tons, an element that helps define the identity of the interior together with the restoration of the existing furnishings.
Wellness and resort vocation
A central role in the reimagined concept was given to the wellness area, which extends over approximately 600 square meters and includes the Venus Wellness Center & Diamond Spa. The spaces have been redesigned for functionality, integrating them more closely into the overall offering of the property. The indoor and outdoor pools, sauna areas, and relaxation areas thus become part of an experience consistent with the new approach, geared toward extended stays.
The decision to strengthen the resort's identity aims to enhance the hotel's lakeside location, a distinctive feature, along with the large garden overlooking the water and the dining areas.
An organizational challenge in a short time
The work was carried out during the closure period, from November 2025 to April 2026. Reopening on schedule required detailed planning and constant coordination between designers, suppliers, and workers. According to the architect in charge of Mabetex SA in Lugano, the greatest challenge in implementing the project was combining technical upgrades and spatial redesign within a limited timeframe, while maintaining the well-being of guests and the continuity of the facility's identity.
The structure is located in Vico Morcote, directly on Lake Lugano, and offers 87 rooms and suites, in addition to the Lago restaurant and an expanded wellness offering, elements that complete the profile of a hotel reality that is now aiming for a phase of consolidation and development.
