Lugano, a city known for its openness towards new financial technologies, is preparing to host the second edition of the Plan ₿ Forum. This free event, organized by Tether Operations Limited in collaboration with the City of Lugano, it focuses on the issues of Bitcoin and individual freedoms.
The event will be held on 20 and 21 October 2023 at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Lugano. In addition, there will be Palco21, a parallel event, organized by the City of Lugano in collaboration with the Lugano Living Lab, with free content accessible to all on issues related to Bitcoin and personal freedoms, which will take place from 19 to 21 October in Piazza Castello and outside Villa Ciani.
The first edition of the Plan ₿ Forum, which took place in 2022, attracted almost 2.000 participants interested in the topics of Bitcoin, blockchain and Peer-to-Peer technologies. The second edition promises to be equally interesting and engaging. During the event, through discussion sessions, networking and practical workshops, various aspects of the Bitcoin landscape will be explored in depth, from its environmental and data protection implications to its function in financial freedom and expression.
A moment of particular interest will be the dialogue with the family members of Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks currently detained in an English prison. Stella Morris, lawyer and wife of Assange, will be present together with her father, John Noble Shipton, and her brother, Gabriel Shipton. A meeting open to the public with Assange's family is scheduled for 19 October outside Villa Ciani in Lugano. The public lesson will be moderated by Prof. Matthew Hibberd of the Media and Journalism Institute of USI-Università della Svizzera italiana, with the participation of students from USI's “The Platform Society” course.
Palco21 will offer content dedicated to the foundations and nature of Bitcoin, the interaction between Bitcoin, media and society and the future of digital money and innovation. This parallel event is free and open to all.
During the main Plan ₿ Forum, which requires the purchase of a ticket, attendees will have the opportunity to listen to and interact with world-renowned experts in the blockchain field. This event will also offer spaces dedicated to art and entertainment, meetings with industry leaders and special initiatives, such as a focus on the relationship between video games and the Lightning Network, a fashion show and an extraordinary drone display.
The Plan ₿ Forum is part of the larger project “Lugano's Plan ₿”, born from the collaboration between the City of Lugano and Tether in 2022. Through this event, Lugano strengthens its position as an innovative hub in the heart of Europe, promoting the meeting and dialogue between global leaders, entrepreneurs, experts and enthusiasts, all united by respect for individual freedoms.
