Founded 125 years ago, the Engadine Golf Club in Samedan is the oldest golf club in Switzerland and the sixth oldest golf club on the European continent. It all began in the summer of 1889, when hotel pioneer Conradin von Flugi went to England to evaluate the possibility of building a golf course in the Engadine. The result was a nine-hole course located between the current railway station and St. Moritz Bad. This route was mentioned for the first time in the "Annuario dell'Engadina" of 1890 which defined it as "very sporty". It was therefore the inhabitants of St. Moritz and their guests who were the first to give golf a home on the old continent.
Playing golf at over 1.500 meters above sea level in one of the most beautiful high-altitude valleys, not to mention the breathtaking Alpine panorama, is an absolute highlight for many golf enthusiasts. The two courses in Samedan and Zuoz-Madulain leave nothing to be desired for the demanding golfer. In particular, the Zuoz-Madulain green, inaugurated in 2003, requires strength and precision. Unlike Samedan, this route features continuous slight climbs and descents and requires a certain level of physical fitness, not only due to the varied structure of the route. But here too it is important to use your head. Which is sometimes not easy when you allow yourself to be distracted once again by the fabulous view of the Engadine mountains or the historic villages of Zuoz and Madulain.
Al Engadin Golf Club the St. Moritz Golf Club was added in 1902 and in 2007, being the oldest golf club in continental Europe, it still had around 174 members. In 1950, the Samedan Golf Club was founded, bringing local golf enthusiasts together. With almost 800 members it was the largest of the three golf clubs in the Engadine. In 1998, the Zuoz Golf Club was founded, the youngest golf club in the Engadine with 320 members. Before the 2008 golf season the three golf clubs in the Upper Engadine merged. The merger gave rise to the Engadine Golf Club, one of the largest golf clubs in Switzerland with over 1.300 members, who have the unique opportunity to play on two excellent golf courses in the Engadine. As the oldest golf club, the Engadine Golf Club attaches great importance to maintaining tradition. Tradition means not only preserving what is good and has proven its value, but also being open to new ideas. In addition to the many sports tournaments, club life is also a social issue: every summer, the Ladies, Seniors and Juniors sections offer a wide range of events to help people meet, mingle or do something together, in addition to playing golf. Courses and trial days provide the basic knowledge for playing golf and choosing the right club for the shot. Anyone who has felt the brief "thud" of a perfectly hit ball cannot help but be infected by the golf bug.
