The Lugano Golf Club hosted the first seasonal competition of the weekend of 5 and 6 April. Swiss Golf Junior Tour, an event that saw the best under-18 talents on the Swiss golf scene compete. A total of 99 young athletes competed on the technically challenging Ticino course, benefiting from mostly favorable weather conditions, mitigated by a wind that put their skills to the test on the final day.

In the women's under 18 category, Selina Casal (Golf Domat/Ems) from Graubünden showed remarkable solidity. With an excellent first round of 68 strokes (-2 under par), Casal was able to manage the comeback of Lilya Favre (Golf & Country de Bossey) who, with a final round at par for the course (70 strokes), recovered a good seven lengths. Despite the pressure, Casal maintained the lead, taking the victory by a margin of just two strokes. Rounding out the podium was Marie Olesen, also from Golf & Country de Bossey.

The men's U-18 competition provided more drama. The leaders after the first round, Jason Imwikelried and John Rösch, both of whom shot 69 (-1 under par) in the opening round, struggled to maintain their position in the difficult windy conditions on Sunday afternoon. The standout was Tim Niederbacher (Golf Unterengstringen), who after a solid first round of 71 (+1 over par) confirmed his good form with a 73 (+3) in the final round, taking the win by just one shot over Niklas Kaufmann (Golf Lägern). Kaufmann, in turn, was just one shot ahead of Felix Kleiner (Golf Kyburg), who finished in third place.

In the under 16 categories, the successes went to Lilya Favre among the girls and Tim Kaufmann among the boys, a testament to the depth of Swiss youth talent.

During the awards ceremony, heartfelt compliments were expressed for the excellent preparation of the course, thanks to the greenkeeping team supported by the SwissGolf referees. The event confirms itself as a crucial appointment for the growth of young Swiss golfers and an important showcase for Ticino golf.

The Lugano Golf Club

Founded in 1923 as a 9-hole course along the Magliasina and expanded to 18 holes in 1969 based on a design by architect Donald Harradine, the Golf Club Lugano today represents a jewel in the golf panorama. With only 32 hectares, compared to the 50 usually needed for an 18-hole course, the course stands out for its technicality and for being a true green oasis in the heart of Magliaso.
