The fantastic weather conditions contributed to making this edition of the StraLugano particularly popular, resulting in a new RECORD of runners on the banks of Lake Ceresio: 5'830 subscribers coming from all the cantons and very often from abroad.
Saturday was spent remembering Marco Borradori, also thanks to the 10th edition of the Marco Borradori Trophy. The award ceremony for the winners of the 4Km CityRun took place in the presence of the cantonal and city political authorities: the President of the Council of State Christian Vitta, the Mayor of Lugano Michele Folletti and the Deputy Mayor Roberto Badaracco. Everyone joined his daughter Carlotta who presented the 10th Marco Borradori Trophy to Marco Maffongelli and Emma Lucchina, the first Ticinese to cross the finish line of the XNUMXKm and both from the Vigor di Ligornetto running team.
As for the 10km City Run, the highest male podium went to the Italian Badr Jaafari who won with a time of 29 minutes and 10 seconds, while among the women the first was the Kenyan Caroline Gitonga Makandi who arrived in 31'01''.
As for the queen race, the Half Marathon, the 2024 edition went to the Kenyan Vincent Towett Kimutai with a time of 1h04'22”. The women's ranking once again saw an African athlete prevail: the Kenyan Rebecca Chepwemoi came in first with a time of 1h09'45'' which establishes the new record of speed of the StraLugano in this distance.
The beauty of the climb was the protagonist of the 200 runners of the Challenge Monte Brè, held on a 9-kilometer course with a difference in altitude of almost 730 meters. The numerous competitors ran from the lakeside of Lugano to the summit of Brè with Anold Aemisegger from Liechtenstein, who crossed the finish line first in 46 minutes.
On Saturday afternoon, the 5km FastRun short-distance race recorded a good turnout of participants in its third edition. The Run4Charity also deserved a great turnout of participants and the public, with over 811 registered participants who supported the solidarity program promoted by StraLugano in favor of local charitable organizations.
This year too, the Sunday afternoon closing was the turn of the race dedicated to the little ones: the exciting KidsRun, which saw over 648 joyful young people under 16 challenge each other in the race, with many families and relatives present to support them.
All the results and rankings of the StraLugano 2024 are available on dedicated website.
