Sharon, when did you start approaching the world of motoring?
«My first experience in the world of motorsport was when I was 14 when I went to the track for the first time in a racing car. The first race was at the age of 16 and from that moment on I have continued to move up in the category until reaching Formula 3 in 2019 ».
What were you passionate about this sport? Were you in many girls?
«What I have tried and still feel for motoring is an indescribable passion. It went beyond just playing a sport for fun. It was my whole life. It was dedication, hard work, training, study, travel, goals to be achieved, victories and defeats. When I was running it was like being in a world unto itself. We met new people every weekend, but just as many familiar and familiar faces. People and fans who have seen you grow over the years, rejoiced with me at my victories and witnessed my defeats. All of this has been my world for many years. I consider myself privileged to have been able to live my dream and be able to reach such an important goal as the F3. The best thing was living all this together with my family and closest friends. There weren't many girls in the paddock, and fewer still those running. But each one gave the best of herself to be able to reach her own goal ».
Then came the pandemic… What has changed?
«The arrival of the Coronavirus, unfortunately, has interrupted my path. The closure of the borders with Italy prevented me from taking part in the first seasonal tests and concluding sponsorship contracts for the season. At this level, unfortunately, it is not possible to continue without sponsors and therefore I found myself without any possibility of taking part in the championship ».
In this year off, have you found any new dreams?
«At the moment my short-term goal is to finish my studies in Architecture. Like racing, architecture is also a passion. It's like having the chance to live a second life, in which you can put the same energy and ambition for something new. However, competitive sport remains an important part of my life. Training remains an outlet and a fundamental point of my person ».
Will you ever go back to running?
«At the moment I cannot say if I will return to racing, as the main point for racing is the sponsors and currently, including the pandemic, the possibilities for large sponsorships are very limited. The void left by racing is immense and it is still too early to be able to put an end to this chapter of my life. Surely it will take some more time ».
A young Ticino woman who shines in a world of men: is there anything you would like to say to girls who, like you, want to chase a dream?
“I would like to say only two things. The first is, and I firmly believe, that if you can dream it you can do it. The second… is simply to never give up. It will certainly not be easy, because it takes tenacity, sacrifice and a lot (a lot) of desire to succeed, but only if the heart really wants it, the mind makes it real and the body makes it happen ».
