After a year of absence due to the pandemic, the Omega Masters is back on the green. A welcome return for a hugely popular event that drew some of the best players from around the world. Omega Masters it is in fact one of the most prestigious golf competitions held in Europe. Originally called the Swiss Open, the tournament took the name of European Masters in 1983 and after a stint as a co-sponsor, Omega became an official sponsor in 2001.
Despite numerous name changes, the event has remained the same since 1939, becoming the oldest golf tournament in Europe held every year on the same course. For the 74th time, in the 2021 edition, participants competed on the green of the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, in the heart of the Swiss Alps.
A tradition lasting more than a century has shaped the world fame of this Golf-Club, but most of all it is the extraordinary setting that remains etched in the memories of those who play on the famous Severiano Ballesteros (18 holes) and Jack Nicklaus (9 holes) courses. . It is difficult to concentrate on the white ball, when at every tee-off one of the most beautiful peaks of the Alps appears: surrounded by nature, the mountain instills calm and inspires golfers, for absolute precision of shots and infinite pleasure.
The paths to be tackled are many depending on the degree of experience. The course on which the professionals participating in the tournament challenged each other was designed by Severiano Ballesteros, one of the strongest players of the twentieth century. Called Severiano Ballesteros, it is an 18 hole course created in 1906, surrounded by a breathtaking scenery that shows the Alps in their majestic beauty from the Matterhorn to Mont Blanc.
For the average experienced player, here is the 9 hole Jack Niklaus, dedicated to the champion who conceived it, which can be tested in its entirety since 1988. It is short but interesting with fairways characterized by dog-legs, artistic and at the same time difficult bunkers. and natural hillocks and depressions. For the less experienced and for those who want to improve their technique, the club offers Super Crans courses (9 holes) and NOAS - Chermignon, also 9 holes.
