The Matterhorn Golf Club is located in a pretty Swiss valley in the Canton of Valais, 1400 meters above sea level, near the international resort of Zermatt, one of the largest ski resorts in Europe.
On 17 September 1990, the first golf enthusiasts from Zermatt founded the Matterhorn Golf Club and started planning a golf course between Randa and Täsch, locally called “Schalli”. Right from the start, the idea aroused great interest among the local inhabitants, but unfortunately at the time numerous difficulties made it impossible to build the planned site. However, the Matterhorn Golf Club was very active, even without having its own course. Thanks to the collaboration of the brothers Bernard and Christian Seiler, in the Schalli it was in any case possible to set up a 6-hole "golf course" (without green) and a driving range (without ball machine), which allowed numerous "beginners" to practice this sport in an alpine atmosphere of extraordinary charm.
In 1999 this training course was expanded to 9 holes and regular tournaments were organized for members. The company "Golf Mischabel AG", under the direction of Amadé Perrig, who had never given up the hope of building a golf course, finally revived the project in 2000.
The many hurdles were overcome, and the groundbreaking ceremony for the new golf course took place in the spring of 2002. In 2003, the course was completely seeded and maintained throughout the summer and autumn so that play could begin in early summer 2004. Since January of that year, the Cervino Golf Club has been admitted to Swiss Golf Association (ASG) and, thanks to its seniors, obtained its first title: Swiss Champion Seniors Interclub Series IV. In 2016, the course was remodeled and in 2017 the 9-hole course that winds around the Vispa river came into operation. Scottish architect John Chilver-Stainer has designed a harmonious course which spreads its greens and fairways over around thirty hectares. The 9-hole course is also played at 18, as there are two teeing zones for each ball. The overall length of the course is 2687 meters, the total par 36.

Only hole 2 shows a large difference in height, with its overhanging opening that allows you to contemplate the nine greens of the site».
Generally open from May to October like most mountain golf courses in Switzerland, Golf Matterhorn offers an exceptional summer experience: playing golf in less than 28 degrees of sunshine, surrounded by snow-capped peaks. It is not uncommon to see the skiers of the Swiss national team training in the morning on the slopes around the Matterhorn before descending to hit the white ball in the afternoon. Former champion Pirmin Zurbriggen also often comes to play with the family.
Another curiosity is the Glacier Express railway line, which cuts the route in half. The regulation of the club also provides for the prohibition of hitting while a train is passing. It is possible to slip under the rails through a small tunnel to reach the putting green and hole No. 1, a par 3 protected by a body of water.
At the Matterhorn Golf Club you can find the following services and equipment: snack bar, electric trolley, manual trolley, instructors, approach green, small play area, club rental, driving range, proshop, putting green and the Mattherorm Schiirli restaurant where you can taste a refreshing drink or meal on the panoramic terrace. The restaurant is also ideally located for walkers and cyclists to recharge their batteries before continuing their journey.
