The Leuk Golf Club is located near the medieval town of Leuk and is located on a slope overlooking the Rhone valley in the canton of Valais. It enjoys a beautiful view of the Finges forest and is known for the variety of its towers. Being on a slope and along the only junction that crossed the Rhone valley, in the past it controlled the communication routes between Brig and Sion. When the road through the Finges forest was inaugurated in the first half of the 19th century, Leuk transformed into a quiet town; with the Leukerbad spa, located in a raised position compared to the town, it is today an ideal place to relax.
From afar its silhouette is marked by numerous towers, including the Ringacker chapel, the old Vicedomini castle, now the seat of the town hall, and the unplastered parish tower, one of the most beautiful examples of Romanesque bell towers in Valais.
In this idyllic setting the 18-hole course of the Leuk Golf Club it was designed by Scotsman John Chilver-Stainer. The entire course, especially the greens, has been modeled in the style of the classic Scottish links golf courses.
The Links Leuk golf course is in fact one of a kind in Switzerland and practice on the links courses is complicated above all by strong and unexpectedly changeable winds, but also by the very fast and often undulating fairways due to the hard and sandy ground which cause the golf course to bounce ball uncontrollably. Furthermore, a links course is characterized by its deep sand bunkers, dense rough and its hard, fast greens.
The golf course was opened in 2002 under the name Golf Club Leuk and at the end of 2019, a four-star hotel was built next to the new clubhouse. The 18 spacious rooms offer views of the greens and mountains of Valais. The infrastructure is ideal for events, short breaks and sporting excursions.
The new restaurant's offering of à la carte specialties and weekly seasonal offerings constitute a gastronomic delight open to all guests. The wine list leaves nothing to be desired. In the cellar the best wines from Valais are available to customers alongside fine Italian wines. With its modern decor, large windows and sunny panoramic terrace overlooking the golf course, the restaurant offers not only an experience for the palate but also a particularly pleasant environment.
The club's pro shop makes golfers' hearts beat faster. The proposals of well-known manufacturers such as Chervò, Foot Joy, Oakley, PeakPerformance, Titleist, UVEX, Wilson satisfy every type of request. The Pro Shop also includes a wide selection of golf-related products. Balls, clubs, bags, shoes, clothing, golf carts and other items are part of the immediately available assortment.
