Anticipation is also growing in Ticino for the Swiss national ice hockey team's potential appearance at the World Championships final. In anticipation of a potential qualification for the tournament's final round, the City of Lugano and Hockey Club Lugano have announced the organization of a special evening at the Cornèr Arena, where the match would be broadcast live on a giant screen.
The World Cup final is scheduled for Sunday, May 31st at 8:20 PM. If the Swiss team secures a spot in the decisive match, fans will have the opportunity to watch the event directly inside the Lugano facility, which will be transformed for the occasion into a large meeting point for hockey enthusiasts.
Access to the rink will be free starting at 5:00 PM. Spectators will be able to sit on the first and second levels of the EAST sector, experiencing the game in an atmosphere reminiscent of major sporting events. The initiative aims to offer Swiss fans a collective opportunity to share the excitement and cheer in one of Ticino's iconic hockey venues.
Various food and beverage options will also be available throughout the evening. The Club'41 restaurant will open at 5:00 PM, while the kitchen will be open at 6:30 PM. The refreshment stand located at the East entrance, offering dishes such as bratwurst and fries, the Nummelin refreshment stand on the first level East, and the Aeschlimann refreshment stand on the second level East will also be open.
The initiative comes as the World Championships, held this year in Switzerland, near their conclusion and enthusiasm for the national team continues to grow. A potential final would also be a highly attractive event for the Ticino public, historically very close to the national hockey movement.
