The prestigious Lugano Golf Club provided the backdrop, on Sunday 4 May 2025, for the annual edition of the Ticinese Absolute Golf Championship. The event attracted the best 75 athletes from the three renowned golf clubs in the Canton of Ticino, ready to compete for the coveted title on the challenging 18 holes of the Magliaso course.
An ideal spring climate accompanied the entire day of competition, characterized by intense competition and a large audience. At the end of a tight comparison, the Golf Club Lugano team conquered the top of the team rankings with a total of 627 strokes, distancing the Golf Gerre Losone (647 strokes) and the Golf Patriziale Ascona (720 strokes).
In the women's individual competition, 72-year-old Vivien Chand, representing Golf Gerre Losone, stunned the audience by winning the title of Absolute Ticino Champion with a remarkable score of 2 shots (+81 over par). Her clubmate Clarissa Rattaggi, also very young, finished eight shots behind her. Rounding out the women's podium was Mimmi Guglielmone of Golf Club Lugano who took third place with XNUMX shots, missing second place by just one shot.
The men's category saw the affirmation of John Bürki, a local athlete from Golf Club Lugano, who dominated the competition with an excellent score of 69 shots (-1 under par). Kiril Engeli Poretti, from Golf Gerre Losone and reigning champion for two years, had to give up the sceptre, finishing in second place with a delay of six shots. An excellent third place was achieved by Davide Antognini from Golf Gerre Losone, with a score of 75 shots.
As for the net ranking, Paola Puffi (Golf Club Lugano) won first prize in the women's category with 71 shots, the same result obtained by Franco Alberti (Golf Club Lugano) in the men's category.
The favorable weather conditions allowed the competition to proceed smoothly, culminating in a heartfelt awards ceremony on the suggestive terrace of the Lugano Golf Club.
The Lugano Golf Club, with its fascinating history that began in 1923 as a 9-hole course along the Magliasina River and was transformed into an 18-hole course in 1969 by architect Donald Harradine, is today a unique reality in the golfing panorama. Extending over just 32 hectares, compared to the 50 usually needed for a golf course, its technically challenging layout is configured as a precious green oasis in the heart of Magliaso.
