The Lugano Hockey Club Juventus strengthens its coaching staff with a well-known name within the Juventus environment. Jordy Murray will be part of the first team staff for the next two seasons, alongside head coach Tomas Mitell and his working group.
For Murray, this is a return to Lugano under a different guise, after having already worn the black and white jersey as a player between 2012 and 2014. This bond is therefore renewed on a technical level, within a project that aims to consolidate the team's growth also through targeted work on individual development.
Born on January 8, 1990, in Voorhees, New Jersey, Jordy Murray holds dual US and Canadian citizenship. After his college career with the University of Wisconsin in the NCAA championship, he embarked on a professional career that also took him to Switzerland, where he played 189 games in the National League, scoring 67 points.
In the top Swiss league, he played for the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers, Hockey Club Lugano and the SCL Tigers of Langnau, leaving the ice in 2016 at the end of his career as a forward.
The Murray name is deeply linked to the history of international hockey, and in particular to that of Lugano. Jordy is the son of Andy Murray, a highly respected coach who won three world titles with the Canadian national team and who coached Lugano in 1992. brother Brady Murray he left an important mark in black and white, wearing the HCL shirt from 2008 to 2015.
After his competitive career, Jordy Murray embarked on a coaching career, building his professional experience in the competitive North American college scene. For the past five seasons, he has served as an assistant coach for high-profile NCAA programs.
His experience began at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, and then continued at the University of Michigan, one of the most prestigious institutions in American college hockey. During his time in Ann Arbor, he contributed to a season that culminated in a championship. More recently, he worked at Colorado College, further strengthening his technical profile.
Within the staff led by Tomas Mitell, Murray will have a specific and strategic role: closely monitoring the individual growth of the attackers, with particular attention to technical and tactical aspects and the development of offensive potential.
