Gabriela Cotti Musio, what is mental coaching?
Mental coaching is a structured program that helps athletes and professionals develop concentration, resilience, and pressure management. It involves working with athletes on their mental attitude and habits, as well as their emotions, so they can consistently express their potential, especially in crucial moments. Furthermore, coaching helps them accept and learn from defeats to further grow. My approach is based on autonomy: I create a space for support and reflection where people can find the answers and tools within themselves to face challenges, stress, difficulties, and change.
How did the idea of pursuing this profession come about, and what were your motivations?
After many years in the world of banking communications, I felt the need to realign my skills and personal values. Sport has always been a part of my life and has shown me how the mental dimension is just as crucial as technique. Furthermore, in recent years I have developed a great curiosity for neuroscience and the progress made in understanding how our brain works. Hence the decision to train in Zurich as a Mental coach for athletes and launch my business."
Corporate communication in the financial sector and mental coaching in sports appear to be two very different activities. What do they have in common?
They may seem distant from each other, but they actually share many common elements. In both cases, you work under pressure, with ambitious goals, tight deadlines, and high expectations. The ability to communicate clearly, manage emotions, make decisions, and maintain trust even when things don't go as expected is crucial in both sports and the business world. My experience in the financial sector has given me structure, method, and interpersonal skills, skills that are now essential in the mental coaching I offer to those aiming for athletic results and those seeking growth in their businesses.
Looking to the future, do you agree that personal relationships will prevail over digital ones?
In an era characterized by the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, I believe that authentic relationships will become even more valuable. People seek trust, a listening ear, and a genuine presence. In coaching, as in communication, the quality of the relationship is what makes the difference. I therefore see an evolution: technology at the service of people to ensure greater efficiency on the one hand, and humanity and connection on the other. It is in this balance that lasting results are built.
