OMEGA expands the Speedmaster 38 mm family with seven new references that enhance the collection's aesthetic without altering its core identity. The project draws more decisively from the codes of the renowned Moonwatch, reworking them according to the proportions and layout specific to the 38 mm line.
The update involves several elements, from the design of the counters to the profile of the bezel, to the choice of dials and materials. The result is a diverse range, including all-steel versions, two-tone options, and two models embellished with diamonds.
A closer connection to the Moonwatch
Among the most noticeable changes are the new rounded counters, which replace the previous oval shapes. A seemingly modest change, but one intended to further accentuate the chronograph's sporty character.
The dial has also been redesigned with a more streamlined approach. The inscriptions have been reduced, leaving more room for the main elements to be read. At the same time, the bezel adopts a more substantial structure and recovers the "Dot Over Ninety" detail, one of the most recognizable elements of the Speedmaster's aesthetic language.
All new references are also paired with a five-link bracelet reminiscent of the Moonwatch. Depending on the configuration, the central links alternate between polished and brushed surfaces, helping to differentiate the look of each model.
“The Speedmaster 38 mm has always been inspired by the Moonwatch, while maintaining its own identity in terms of proportions, color and simplicity,” said Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA. «With this latest update we have pushed the inspiration even further, enriching the Speedmaster DNA while preserving the refined and unique nature that has always distinguished the 38 mm range.»
Two movements for seven references
On a technical level, the new series is based on two automatic Co-Axial movements.
Six of the seven models are powered by Caliber 3330 and feature a date display. The exception is the black-dial reference, which is powered by Caliber 3332 and lacks a date display.
This choice allows for a certain coherence to be maintained within the collection, while at the same time introducing a precise distinction for the model which, even from an aesthetic point of view, appears closest to the historical imagery of the Speedmaster.
Steel and black dial, the version closest to tradition
Among the new proposals, the steel model with black dial is the one that most directly recalls the Moonwatch.
The black aluminum bezel complements a matte-finish lacquered black dial. The hands and indexes are filled with white Super-LumiNova, and the Co-Axial Caliber 3332 powers the watch.
The bracelet alternates three rows of brushed links with two rows of smaller, polished links. The absence of a date window further contributes to the minimalist dial.
The contrast of the white and blue dial
Another interpretation of the new OMEGA Speedmaster 38 mm focuses on the colour contrast between white and blue.
The white lacquered dial is paired with a blue ceramic bezel with a white enamel tachymeter scale. The hands and indexes receive a blue CVD treatment, which is also echoed in the numerals of the date window.
The combination introduces a brighter reading of the collection, maintaining the technical and sporty structure of the chronograph.
Silver, Warm Gray and Sedna Gold
The silver-dial version uses a warmer combination. The bezel is made of warm gray aluminum, while the dial features an opaline silver PVD finish.
PVD-coated Sedna™ gold hands interact with baton indexes filled with white Super-LumiNova. The subdials feature brown PVD and Sedna™ gold hands, creating a more complex color variation.
The two-tone interpretations
The new range also includes two two-tone models, in which steel is combined with gold.
The first model features an opaline silver dial, a stainless steel case, and a polished 18K Moonshine™ gold bezel. The bezel ring is made of green aluminum, while the tachymeter scale uses gold tones. The bracelet's smaller links are also made of 18K Moonshine™ gold.
The second model features the "cappuccino" color scheme, already present in the Speedmaster 38 mm collection. The ivory-colored main dial is flanked by brown PVD subdials. The case is made of steel, while the polished bezel is crafted from 18K Sedna™ gold and paired with a brown aluminum ring. The bracelet's smaller links are also made of Sedna™ gold.
Ice blue and mother-of-pearl, the versions with diamonds
Completing the collection are two references featuring diamonds on the bezel.
Both models are adorned with 52 diamonds totaling 1,53 carats. The first version features an ice blue PVD-coated dial, while the second features white mother-of-pearl.
The two variants share rhodium-plated hands and baton indexes filled with white Super-LumiNova, combining more precious materials with the functional elements that belong to the Speedmaster tradition.
A larger and more recognizable collection
With these seven new references, OMEGA is updating the Speedmaster 38 mm with a refresh that isn't limited to the new colorways. The subdial design, the return of the "Dot Over Ninety" dial, the revised dial lettering, and the new bracelet all contribute to highlighting the connection with the Moonwatch.
At the same time, the variety of configurations maintains the specificity of the 38mm range. Steel, gold, ceramic, aluminum, mother-of-pearl, and diamonds define offerings aimed at different audiences, united by the same chronograph architecture and the use of automatic Co-Axial movements.
