In a society that runs without knowing exactly what the goal is, finding a "normal" person is not an easy task. Everyone and everything must be extraordinary. I approached this reflection, perhaps a little boldly, to the car I had the opportunity to try on the journey from Lugano to St. Moritz and back, on the occasion of the annual Gourmet Festival which took place in February. of the past year. So far the cars for this occasion have been extraordinary, while last year it was a Subaru Forester 2.0 E-Boxer, a car of a brand that didn't tell me much, that is a car that before the test I could consider "ordinary" , that is normal, but which then turned out to be extraordinary for someone like me who attributes greater value to certain factors more than others; for example, safety is more important to me than aesthetics. At this point I could dare a metaphor by borrowing the aphorism of the British writer and playwright William Somerset Maugham which reads: “The elegant man is the one whose suit you never notice”.

Well for a long time I have not noticed the "dress", but the confidence that the Subaru Forester 2.0 E-Boxer expresses translates into a pleasant feeling that accompanies the whole trip. Sitting on board you gradually discover other qualities, which if we want to represent small things that added together give a great result. I am reminded of the aphorism of an anonymous person who goes like this: "Friendship is not a big thing, it's a million little things". Now I have noticed this car with which I then made friends.

I can't mention all the little things that the Subaru E-Boxer gives, but some of them do: vigorous acceleration, comfortable and quiet driving, generous interior space, almost zero vibrations even "off road", the automatic decision when from propulsion you have to switch to the electric one, the system called “EyeSight” which detects symptoms of fatigue from the driver's gaze, the device that automatically brakes in reverse if the sensors detect an obstacle, etc.

The company of the Rising Sun, which has the Pleiades as its symbol, has set itself a very ambitious goal for its cars by 2030, namely the elimination of road accidents with victims. Going then to rummage in the history of this company born far from us, in Japan, I discovered that the business started in 1917 with the construction of military aircraft and then in 1954 began with the production of the first cars. I did not know that the Subaru Legacy model with all-wheel drive, whose debut dates back to 1989, is the best-selling vehicle in the world and that in motor sport Subaru in the 90s collected several victories in the World Rally Championships. In short, it is not just any car! As happens with people you cannot judge at first glance, so also cars cannot judge them at first glance, because if you try them and with curiosity and interest you deepen your knowledge, discover with surprise hidden and unexpected qualities.
