How has your experience gained in the field of postal shipments? «My activity in the world of logistics started in UPS, where I had the opportunity to grow this company in Ticino and in Switzerland. At the end of the 90s, with the cessation of the monopoly regime and with the almost simultaneous disappearance of customs in Europe, Swiss Post also found itself in the need to restructure its entire organization to compete on the new markets that were just emerging. . At the time, various branches were opened in different countries and from Ticino I took care of supporting some of these foreign offices. Later we moved from a regional management to an organization by branch of activity and I dedicated myself, always from the point of view of parcel logistics, to the problems of the fashion and fashion sectors, to which I was later also added customers in the financial sector. Since 2012 I have been working in consultancy for international companies that chose to settle in Ticino, up to a few months ago taking over the management of the PostMail commercial sector for Italian Switzerland ».
How has the vision of Swiss Post changed over the years?
“Until a few years ago, shipments handled by Swiss Post consisted almost exclusively of tangible objects, ie letters and parcels. Today we are in an advanced phase of transformation from physical to digital reality. Swiss Post is also evolving and, as a specialist and reliable partner, is bridging the two dimensions. With E-Post Office, for example, it offers customers the option of deciding which items to receive and in which format. Senders can also electronically transmit their information letters, invoices, contracts, etc. to a processing center, where correspondence is handled according to different preferences: the items you wish to physically receive are deposited, as usual, in the letterbox. On the other hand, those that you prefer to receive in electronic format are displayed as PDFs in the inbox of E-Post Office, the intelligent letterbox on the internet ».
What are the advantages for those who choose to use the electronic format?
«The possibility of replying, forwarding and archiving the electronic correspondence received for an unlimited time is certainly very useful, taking advantage of this possibility of secure storage as a personal archive for one's data. No less important is the ability to manage your mail directly, for example by paying invoices directly on the platform. Finally, all the advantages deriving from security should not be overlooked: unlike normal e-mails, E-Post Office offers protection from unauthorized access. To allow customers to manage their correspondence even when they are not at home or in the office, the application is also available free of charge as an app for iPhone, iPad and Android smartphones ».
Swiss Post also offers state-of-the-art solutions on the e-commerce front.
«Online shopping is now a reality. E-commerce is booming, customers want to be able to make their purchases every day, at any time and increasingly even on the move. How products are offered and presented is decisive for the success of a transaction. Therefore ease of use, simple payment and flexible delivery of goods are key elements for success in the field of e-commerce. Swiss Post accompanies its customers to success with individual solutions and professional advice. From the conception to the operation of the online shop, passing through its implementation, everything is offered from a single source ".
There is a lot of talk about 0 km deliveries. What does it mean?
“For Swiss Post, this means that we go to the customer and not the customer who comes to us. Our goal is to simplify the daily life of our customers and offer them different solutions for different needs, anytime, anywhere and in the way they want. To give just one example, in some regions of internal Switzerland a system of direct home delivery of fruit and vegetables harvested by the regional producer has already been introduced, and will soon be experimentally also in Ticino. And similar solutions are being studied as regards the delivery of drugs ».
