We list the main novelties of CES, summarizing them by thematic areas:
- AI and Automation: agentic Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, presented at CES 2025, have evolved to the point of being capable of actions and decisions similar to human will. They will optimize competitiveness and production, relational and even logistical processes linked to social preferences. Let's take an example for non-experts: in the tourism sector, virtual assistants and multilingual AI solutions are ready to personalize and enrich the visitor experience, raise awareness of decisions on the attractiveness and hospitality of a territory and, inevitably, also consequent investments.
- Sustainable technologies: innovations related to green energy and the Internet of Things (IoT), i.e. the interdependent use of human activities and digital assistants, will represent an opportunity for companies that adopt environmental sustainability as a strategic priority. This requirement guides market choices, influences the reputational judgment of companies and, probably, also conditions the attitudes of the electorate.
- Advanced Robotics and Virtual & Augmented Reality: recalling what was previously expressed, these technologies will enhance immersive experiences, as well as technical and cultural skills.
Some scholars, before the pandemic, imagined a future where factories would require only the presence of a man and a dog: the dog to ward off intruders and the man to feed the dog, while manufacturing activities would be completely automated and digitalized.
CES 2025 signals that this hypothesis is already being progressively realized, confirmed by the following innovations:
- Advanced Robots: equipped with agentic AI, they are already able to learn, adapt and autonomously manage sophisticated tasks.
- Integrated IoT: promotes, interconnects and coordinates every element of the production chain.
- Autonomous AI: By 2027, 15% of human activities will be entrusted to digital robots.
Simply put, we are about to witness a migration of job responsibilities from people to robotics.
In this scenario, traditional salaried labor, though essential, will move from an active role to that of a simple resolver of extraordinary events.
To prevent such developments from generating irreversible and divisive social inequalities, it will be necessary to assert moral and ethical considerations to avoid arbitrary unemployment, promote the redistribution of work and discourage discrimination of the workforce based on employment limitations.
These are challenging times that no one can avoid, but this is the message of CES 2025, which society and the digital world will have to face together.
