The mostly flat course and the mild climate invite golf enthusiasts to Interlaken-Unterseen to play golf in the heart of the Bernese Oberland. The 18-hole golf course, which borders a nature reserve, is an experience not only for nature lovers, but also for golfers who appreciate the balanced harmony of sporting challenges and interaction with nature.
Nestled between Lakes Brienz and Thun, within sight of the world-famous Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks, lies this extremely attractive championship course, which has been in existence since 1966 and was rebuilt and improved in 2004 and 2005.
The dreamy Alpine hills and one of the most important nature reserves are the backdrop for unforgettable golf games. Strict maintenance requirements and the creation of protected areas for flora and fauna have preserved the natural aspect of the place. Wild animals and birds of all kinds have established their home in and around the course.
The club's facilities include a putting green, a short game area for pitching and chipping, and a driving range. The on-site pro shop offers suitable clothing and state-of-the-art golf equipment - in short, everything you need to play golf. If necessary, you can also rent golf clubs and take advantage of attractive offers for beginners. The welcoming Club House is the ideal setting to enjoy a refreshing drink before and/or after your round or to sample the specialities of the gourmet restaurant.
Golf has been played in the Oberland since 1904. Today's golf course was created on the initiative of some tourism professionals from Interlaken and in 1963 the Interlaken-Unterseen Golf Club. The golf course was designed by the German golf architect Limburger and built by the well-known golf architect Donald Harradine. Construction work began in late autumn 1963 and play began on 9 holes in 1965. In the summer of 1966, however, the second 9 holes were operational and since then Unterseen has had its own 18-hole golf course, built with a sum of money of around 800.000 francs. In the following years, investments were made mainly in the infrastructure. Thus in 1983 a “Stöckli” was purchased and used as an office. In 1976 the new cloakroom building and a pro shop were put into operation and in 1984 the space was expanded to meet the needs with the new Wägelihalle. Since the restaurant also needed to be expanded, a new restaurant hall with 1985 seats and a large glass front was built in 70.
Since the clubhouse could no longer meet the needs and number of members, a new one was built in the winter of 1993/94 at a cost of 4 million francs. The driving range was also too small due to the ever-increasing number of members and had to be renovated in 2000 when training began in a new facility. After around 40 years of use, the golf course no longer met the usual standards and was extensively renovated from autumn 2003 to summer 2005. According to the plans of Scottish golf architect John Chilver-Stainer, all greens and tees were rebuilt and watercourses, lakes and ponds were created within the golf course area. This was also linked to the renaturalisation of the existing watercourses down to Lake Thun. The harmony between nature and golf has always been important to the Golf Club Interlaken-Unterseen and has become a reality with the new golf course.
