With the new Ferrari Amalfi Spider the House of Maranello Ferrari expands its range of open-top cars with a Spider 2+ that aims to combine sportiness, elegance, and versatility. Presented as the heir to the philosophy of Ferrari's front-engined grand tourers, the car was designed to deliver high performance without sacrificing comfort and everyday usability. The result, as the manufacturer emphasizes, is "a perfect synergy between performance, elegance, enjoyment, ease of driving, and versatility," elements that define the new benchmark for Ferrari's sporty lifestyle, even in open-top configuration.
Stylistically, the Amalfi Spider retains the elegant, flowing silhouette of the coupé from which it derives. The design, developed by the Ferrari Design Studio led by Flavio Manzoni, is based on clean surfaces and sculpted volumes that give the car a modern and dynamic look. The front is characterized by a long, sculpted hood housing the V8 engine, while the rear features a prominent active spoiler integrated into the tailgate. Among the car's distinctive features is the fabric soft top, available in a variety of colors and featuring a special technical weave that creates a three-dimensional effect that changes with the light. The roof opens automatically in 13,5 seconds and can be operated while driving up to 60 km/h, while the mechanism's reduced thickness allows for excellent cargo capacity: the trunk offers 255 liters with the roof closed and 172 liters with the roof open.
Inside, the passenger compartment echoes the dual cockpit layout first adopted on the Amalfi coupé. Driver and passenger are enveloped in two distinct yet visually connected cells, creating a cocoon effect that reinforces the feeling of sportiness. The interior design is minimalist and contemporary, emphasizing clean lines and ergonomic controls. The central tunnel is constructed as a suspended bridge in milled aluminum, housing the main vehicle controls. The 2+ configuration also allows the rear seats to be used for small items of luggage or to transport children, further enhancing the vehicle's versatility.
Great attention has also been paid to the driver-car interface. The new steering wheel features the return of physical buttons and the iconic anodized aluminum start button. The digital system is based on three main screens: a 15,6-inch instrument panel, a 10,25-inch central multimedia display, and an 8,8-inch passenger display that displays driving parameters such as engine speed and lateral forces. Connectivity includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and wireless smartphone charging, while the MyFerrari Connect system allows the vehicle's status to be monitored remotely via an app.
The heart of the Amalfi Spider is the latest evolution of the 3.855 cm³ twin-turbo V8 from the F154 family, one of the most awarded engines in the brand's recent history. In this configuration, the engine develops 640 horsepower at 7.500 rpm and a maximum torque of 760 Nm, allowing the car to reach 100 km/h from a standing start in 3,3 seconds and on to a top speed of 320 km/h. Power delivery is made particularly responsive thanks to the independent control of the turbochargers and a series of technical solutions such as the flat-plane crankshaft and twin-scroll technology. The engine is mated to the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission already introduced on other latest-generation Ferrari models.
Driving dynamics also benefit from numerous technological innovations. Among these are the brake-by-wire system, which improves braking modulation and reduces pedal travel, and ABS Evo, capable of optimizing brake force distribution in all grip conditions. All vehicle dynamics controls communicate through the Side Slip Control 6.1 system, which coordinates steering, electronic differential, and traction control to ensure stability and precision. The Manettino on the steering wheel allows the driver to choose between five driving modes—Wet, Comfort, Sport, Race, and ESC-Off—adapting the car's response to different conditions.
The aerodynamics have been designed to deliver high performance even with the roof down. The car features a mobile rear wing with three configurations that activate automatically based on speed and acceleration, generating up to 110 kg of downforce at 250 km/h. To improve comfort when driving with the roof down, a wind deflector integrated into the rear seat backrests has also been developed. It can be operated via a control in the cockpit and reduces turbulence and wind noise.
Overall, the Ferrari Amalfi Spider represents a synthesis of performance, technology, and open-air driving pleasure. Designed for both everyday use and leisure travel, Maranello's new V8 spider aims to reinterpret the tradition of open-top grand tourers with a combination of elegance, innovation, and sporty character.
