Which initiatives are therefore worth mentioning regarding marketing, promotion and communication? «There are numerous priority projects that, in addition to current activities, will see Lugano Region engaged during 2025, starting with the activation of at least ten promotional offers of products with overnight stays. In line with the Family Destination strategy, the development of a series of projects aimed at increasing the attractiveness towards this target is planned, as well as the creation of new products for different segments, starting with the creation of new mountain bike and gravel routes. We should also mention a series of initiatives that will be carried out to intensify our presence on the German market, in the United States and in Saudi Arabia. And, again, the enhancement of the Pop Up at the new Infopoint in Via Magatti 6, the implementation of the “Lugano Region Ti Conosco” project, a series of workshops for front office staff to inform them about news, improve reception and hospitality». Looking at the current builds, where are you at with your gravel trail building program? «I would say that what we have done represents a bit of our flagship. It has been completed by routes specifically selected for gravel bikes and for (e)-MTB lovers who wish to tackle an exciting panoramic itinerary, over five stages, with minimal technical difficulty but with inevitable differences in altitude to cover. Route that alternates paved roads with dirt roads but also medium-easy paths, sometimes with an uneven surface that in some sections may require pushing the bike (2.8 km out of 236 km total); in fact, there are two connecting paths that allow you to ideally connect the various valleys/sub-regions so as to optimize travel". Food and wine is proving to be an increasingly important factor of attraction… «Culinary heritage is increasingly establishing itself as a decisive factor in the processes of attraction and tourist enjoyment. Food and wine tourism acquires a notable importance in the choice of vacation, not only because food is important in the tourist experience, but also because food and wine has become a cultural practice inclusive of ethical aspects and sustainability of the territory. Typical agri-food products, in fact, if appropriately safeguarded, contribute to the construction of the identity of a territory and to activate synergies with other resources (art, environment, etc.). I like to say that food and wine is culture, as well as a point of connection between tourists and the territory and that from this point of view the Lugano area really has a lot to offer thanks to the commitment of restaurateurs (from grottos to starred restaurants), the numerous promotional events and also the support offered by various public institutions". And again, how do you plan to move towards markets that are potentially susceptible to development? «Starting from 2023, the MICE and Incoming sector of Lugano Region has been integrated into the Ticino Convention Bureau, a cantonal center of competence for business tourism composed of a team of professionals who deal with the management of MICE and Incoming requests. This process has facilitated the relationship with companies and operators in the sector who intend to organize events in Lugano and its territory and the results are already visible in the number and quality of the events already held or scheduled for the coming months and in the requests that are continuously addressed to our experts in the meetings, incentives, conferences and events sector", Lugano Region has recently obtained the Label II Engaged as part of the Swisstainable program promoted by Switzerland Tourism. What is the meaning of this certificate? «This important recognition confirms the concrete commitment to interpret sustainability, a multidimensional concept, in all aspects and in all its activities, thus contributing to a sustainable development of the destination, on an environmental, economic and social level». Specifically, what initiatives have you undertaken in the field of accessibility? «With the aim of offering inclusive experiences for individual travellers and small groups, the “Grand Tour of Barrier-Free Switzerland” was inaugurated on 9 May 2025: a ten-stage itinerary that touches on some of Switzerland’s most spectacular attractions, including Lugano. The tour can be customized according to the preferences of the participants and includes a panoramic train ride, a boat cruise and the accompaniment of a specialized tour guide. The second initiative concerns environmental commitment through membership in the myclimate “Cause We Care” program, aimed at offsetting harmful carbon dioxide emissions. This program allows tourism operators to offer customers the opportunity to voluntarily contribute to climate protection when purchasing products or services. The Lugano Tourist Board has introduced a voluntary donation of 1% or 2% on all purchases made through its online marketplace.
