The Lugano LongLake Festival is one of the largest urban open air in Switzerland, a multidisciplinary event with a varied musical soul, which offers concerts every evening with protagonists of the international, Swiss and local music scene, to which are added free entertainment, including theatre, cabaret, conferences, activities and events for families, thematic markets and street food proposals. The festival programming includes Estival Jazz, Lugano Buskers and LAC en plein air. 17 days of free events (almost all) that will take turns on various stages set up in the green and urban spaces of the city. The program is divided into various thematic strands which from the beginning constitute the backbone of the festival and guide the choice of the public: music, street, family, words.
MUSIC
The musical line up of the Festival opens with Estival Jazz which on 7 and 8 July will offer two evenings of free concerts in Piazza della Riforma. The prestigious event, in its 43rd edition, will bring artists of great international renown to the stage: Ben Harper, Gilberto Gil, Judith Hill, Stanley Clarke, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, Mark Lettieri, Beppe Donadio. The first notes chosen for the official opening of Estival, on Friday 7 July, are entrusted to Beppe Donadio, singer-songwriter, pianist-singer, born in 1968, born in Brescia but Ticino by adoption. After him, on the stage in Piazza della Riforma we will have guest Mark Lettieri, the virtuoso American guitarist and member of Snarky Puppy who will warm up the square with his adrenaline-pumping fusion.
The evening continues with a super guest, Ben Harper together with the Innocent Criminals, winner of three Grammy Awards and author of a piece of current music history. To conclude the first evening in style, Californian singer-songwriter Judith Hill will take the stage, a pure concentrate of funk, soul and r&b, with many references to the 'old school' and some more modern cues. Saturday 8 July, the second evening of Estival begins with the notes of Stanley Clarke, winner of 4 Grammys and considered a legend of contemporary jazz.
In Lugano he presents his new and exciting band 4EVER, a band that offers a powerful combination of jazz harmonies and improvisations with rock, funk, R&B, hip-hop and electronic music influences. The evening continues with a highly prestigious guest: the Brazilian artist Gilberto Gil who is back in concert with his Aquele Abraço Tour, to celebrate his 60-year career and 50 years of world tour. And to close the 43rd edition of Estival in style, the overwhelming rhythm of Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 who represent the authentic original root of afrobeat, but reinvigorated by young energy and a remarkable openness to collaborations and artistic contaminations.
LAC en plein air
On 11 and 12 July we move to the Piazza del LAC, Piazza Luini, with two concerts offered by LAC en plein air, the summer festival conceived by LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura. Salmo, one of the major protagonists of the Italian rap scene, will be a guest on Tuesday 11 July, to continue the following day with the concert of the young singer-songwriter Madame, which will be preceded by a performance by the Ticino rapper Mattak.
