Ascona, for the eleventh consecutive year, is preparing to transform itself into the European capital of music in New Orleans, hosting the 41rd edition of JazzAscona. From June 26 to July 5, the picturesque Ticino town will vibrate to the rhythm of almost 200 concerts, spread across four main stages and animating bars, restaurants and the charming streets of the historic center. A 360-degree musical experience, enriched by jam sessions that will continue until late at night, all with the peculiarity of free admission that makes JazzAscona accessible to all.
The festival, which confirms itself as one of the most anticipated events in the international music scene, promises a deep dive into the roots and evolution of jazz, with a special focus on the vibrant sounds of Louisiana. A start with a bang: parade, boogie woogie and the voices of New Orleans
As is tradition, the official opening of JazzAscona will be marked by a captivating parade. At 6:00 PM, the streets of the Borgo will resound with the music of the Trombone Shorty Foundation Brass Band . Young talents hailing directly from New Orleans, the musicians of this group represent the future of jazz, the fruit of a training program that prepares them both artistically and professionally. Their infectious energy will accompany the JazzAscona audience daily, bringing the true spirit of the delta city's marching bands to Ticino.
Boogie woogie enthusiasts will have the pleasure of seeing a familiar and beloved face: Ticino pianist Silvan Zingg , who makes his long-awaited return to JazzAscona after a few years away . His first performance is scheduled for 7:30 pm on Stage Seven, promising to heat up the atmosphere with his unmistakable virtuosity.
The opening night of JazzAscona will also feature the debut of two New Orleans bands who will be performing throughout the festival. The talented Cristen “Ten” Spencer , one of the Crescent City's most promising voices, will bring her intoxicating mix of soul, R&B, funk, and jazz to the New Orleans stage (8:00 PM).
