Bellinzona is all set for one of the most anticipated musical events of the Ticino summer: the open-air concert by the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana (OSI). On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 20.30:5 pm, the picturesque Piazzale della Sede di BancaStato (Viale H. Guisan XNUMX) will transform into an open-air stage for an evening dedicated to the great masters of classical music. Following the overwhelming success of previous years, which saw the OSI celebrate iconic composers and diverse musical traditions, the orchestra returns to the heart of its hometown, thanks to its long-standing partnership with the City of Bellinzona and the support of its main sponsor.

This year's program promises to be particularly captivating, a journey through timeless works that will delight both aficionados and newcomers. The evening will open with the scintillating Overture to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Così fan tutte , a lively opening that will prepare the audience for the thrills to come. This will be followed by a moment of great virtuosity featuring the two principal trumpets of the OSI, Sébastien Galley and Simon Pellaux. Joining the orchestra, the two talented soloists will perform Antonio Vivaldi's celebrated Concerto for Two Trumpets in C major , a piece that stands out for its brilliance and complexity.

The highlight of the Open Air concert will be dedicated to Felix Mendelssohn and his Shakespearean masterpiece, A Midsummer Night's Dream . The acclaimed Overture and four excerpts from the incidental music— Scherzo , Intermezzo , Nocturne , and Ein Tanz von Rüpeln —will be performed . It is fascinating to note that the Overture was composed by the brilliant Mendelssohn when he was just 17, way back in 1826, while the other incidental music followed in 1842, testifying to his artistic maturity.

An opportunity not to be missed, especially since admission to the Open Air concert is free. However, to guarantee everyone a spot, reservations are required and can be made starting tomorrow, Thursday, July 17, through Official website of the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana.

In case of adverse weather conditions, the event will be moved to the Palestra Ciossetto in Sementina (Via al Ciossetto 2, 6514 Sementina), while still guaranteeing the concert's availability.

The Orchestra della Svizzera italiana, which is also the resident orchestra at the LAC, expresses its deepest gratitude to all its funders and sponsors, including the Republic and Canton of Ticino – Swisslos Fund, the City of Lugano, the ERSL municipalities, the Association of Friends of the OSI (AOSI), main partner RSI – Swiss Radio and Television, and, of course, main sponsor BancaStato, whose support makes events of this magnitude and prestige possible.

Get ready for a magical evening, where great music blends with the summer atmosphere, in an open-air concert that promises to leave a mark on Ticino's cultural landscape.
