Lugano welcomes back its most anticipated summer event: Estival Jazz. The 10th edition of the festival, part of the broader Estival Jazz program, began on Thursday, July 45th. Lugano Long Lake Festival (July 10-27, 2025), with an unmissable event that delighted thousands of enthusiasts: OSI and Estival Jazz. The undisputed star of the opening night was the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana (OSI), which took the stage in Piazza della Riforma in a stellar combination with legendary American guitarist Al Di Meola.
At 10:00 PM, in the heart of Lugano, the OSI at Estival Jazz provided intense excitement. Under the expert direction of Maestro Fabrizio Festa, the orchestra accompanied Al Di Meola on a musical journey ranging from the compositions of the great Astor Piazzolla to pieces by Di Meola himself, an icon of jazz fusion and world music. It was a unique opportunity to witness an unforgettable blend of talents, strengthening the bond between our Canton's resident orchestra and one of the most prestigious international festivals.
Access to Piazza della Riforma was, as per tradition, completely free, offering everyone the chance to participate in this magical evening that marks not only the opening of Estival Jazz, but also the 15th edition of the LongLake Festival.
The OSI's commitment doesn't end with Estival. Next week, Wednesday, July 16th at 21:00 PM, the LAC Hall will host "Bestiario notturno," a ballad opera based on the mélodies of Francis Poulenc. This event will feature OSI musicians Alberto Biano, Federico Cicoria, Hans Liviabella, and Johann Sebastian Paetsch, and will serve as a valuable preview of the opera "La voix humaine – Cavalleria rusticana," scheduled for the LAC in September.
And Ticino's summer, full of music and culture, will culminate with another major event featuring the OSI once again. On Wednesday, August 6, at 3:30 PM, the Palexpo (FEVI) in Locarno will come alive with the thrilling opening concert of the renowned Locarno Film Festival . Under the baton of Maestro Philippe Béran, the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana will perform to kick off one of Europe's most important film festivals, once again demonstrating our Canton's versatility and musical excellence.
