New year, new projects. In the presence of the authorities and the heads of the municipal departments concerned, the city of Lugano, the 2nd largest Swiss agglomeration by territorial extension and 9th by number of inhabitants, has recently illustrated to the public the Municipal Master Plan-PDCom, the roadmap of urban, building and territorial city development up to 2050, thus initiating a whole series of consultations that will now involve not only professionals, but also the entire resident population.
For the record, we would like to point out that the works are proceeding according to the project developed by the Paola Viganò architecture firm in Milan, leader of a series of professionals also active in the Confederation.
The Lombard architects have managed to elaborate an organic revision of the landscaping and planning interventions that in the past decades have intervened, sometimes overlapping, in the city districts and in the former villages that have gradually been absorbed by the municipality of Ceresio.
In particular, since 2003 Lugano has proceeded to an aggregation of external municipalities and today it presents itself as a concentrate of over twenty different districts, each planned on the basis of specific and uncoordinated landscape criteria.
A separate chapter is the reorganization of traffic routes, the cross and delight of private, tourist and commercial mobility.
In particular, starting from the XNUMXs, mobility has progressively abandoned the imperatives linked to the satisfaction of individual needs and is now ready to convert to slow mode, to the creation of integrated next-generation tram-rail transport, and also to electric mobility, options that as a whole they are more in keeping with the needs imposed by today's environmental sensitivity, by teleworking, and which allow a harmonious and inclusive recovery of the territory of areas once considered peripheral or marginal.
In this way, the Bernese architect Franz Oswald, president of the college of experts summed up, “Lugano is a candidate to become a pole of Mediterranean culture”.
