Optimizing security: the "Ticino Police" report presented at the cantonal consultative conference

The 26th cantonal consultative conference on security took place in Bellinzona, an important event which brought together the heads of the departments of the Ticino Polo municipalities under the direction of the head of the Department of Institutions, Norman Gobbi. Among the topics discussed, the presentation of the final report of the "Polizia Ticinese" working group stood out.

The report, the result of careful work coordinated and guided by the general secretary of the Department of Institutions, Luca Filippini, analyzed in detail the collaborations between the cantonal police and the municipal police, with particular attention to the principles of the Ticino 2020 Reform. The main objective is to improve the internal security structure in the Canton, making it more efficient and effective, while aiming to harmonize costs and increase professionalism in the management of the police forces.

The Director of the Department, Norman Gobbi, highlighted the key points of the proposal that emerged from the Working Group, underlining the importance of confirming and re-evaluating the role of the municipal police, which will assume leading skills directly perceivable by citizens. Furthermore, there is a clear focus on the proximity strategy, a role that will be played as a priority by the municipal police.

The proposed solution provides for a new division of tasks between the cantonal and municipal institutional levels in order to maximize efficiency, reducing potential overlaps and ensuring more effective governance. The report will soon be presented to all municipalities, with specific meetings intended for both those with and without police forces. Subsequently, the document in its consolidated version will be delivered to the Council of State.

This work, carried out in close collaboration with the Association of Ticino Municipalities (ACT), represents a valid solution that enhances both the tasks of the municipal police and those of the cantonal police. The report constitutes a solid basis for tackling the problem with greater knowledge discussion within Parliament on the possible establishment of a single police force in Ticino.
