Among the students engaged in dance lessons, musical recordings and solfeggio reviews, he tells me about the new great adventure he has landed on after 25 years of musical career. In the school you can breathe a vibrant energy, it seems to be in an episode of Fame, the television series inspired by the Juilliard School in New York. In this talent incubator, performers in the performing arts are trained.
An exciting chapter that keeps Pablo 100% busy ...

“It's true, I don't stop for a moment but it doesn't bother me because I totally love what I do. Today I am in charge of the Artistic Direction of the Pop Music School. At a macro level I manage the structural growth of the school, together with my wife who manages the administrative part. At a micro level, I follow the artistic path of the children by establishing the objectives to be achieved. I try to understand what direction they could take both on an artistic and professional level and at that point, together with the teachers, we define a path of growth at 360 ° ".

With the Pop Music School you have created something that wasn't there yet ...

"Our characteristics are multidisciplinarity and an eye to the future ... With the team of teachers that has been created, high-level professionals whom I respect and in whom I have total confidence, we prepare students who become part of the" Elite "section to continue their studies or to enter the working world. I don't think there has existed, not only in Ticino but on an international level, a structure like this where the academic career flows into the professional ».

How did you create a bridge between the formation and the stage?

«My musical career has allowed me, in addition to reaching that maturity that today allows me to lead young talents, to create important professional connections. Connections that have facilitated the creation of a channel between school and work. We bond with events and management, we have our own label, a record agency and an agency for actors. The collaboration with an academy in Rome allows the actors to access the casting. We are also working on other synergies that will soon be active ».

How is your vision being defined?

“We have only six years of life but the vision that guides us is clear and we are structuring ourselves in a solid way. In the first four years we have built an important pool of talents grown in the school, in the last two we have started to sow, creating important collaborations especially with the Italian territory. There are those who went to make the Academy of Musicals in Bologna, those of the theater, those who are casting in Rome right now and those who are recording their first album ».

The Pop Music School approach aims to train complete artists ...

«Exactly, if one wants to be a singer he will also have to devote himself to the study of at least one instrument, study technique and musical composition, as well as follow dance and posture lessons to learn how to move on the stage. Those who are more inclined to acting will study theater, but also dance and use of the voice, the lessons will lead them to develop the skills to overcome the castings of important academies or to become a professional and teacher. If you specialize in more things you are more versatile and your chances of living from your art increase exponentially. You can be a teacher, a choreographer, act in a TV series or sing in clubs. This is an important feature of our school, we encourage children to develop more skills by doing multidisciplinary paths ".

“In fact, there is everything, various degrees of interest and objectives. Our students start from 2 years of age. In our theater company there are people of all ages and the same goes for the singing and dance courses which are open to all ages. From the moment you create this focus and this priority in the individual, over the years and tenacity, a pleasure can be transformed into a career opportunity ».

What are the keys to awakening the passion?

«The Mendrisio headquarters, where we are today, is attended by over 600 students… Among these, at least 500 come with their own dreams: to be a singer, act in films or perform as professional dancers. The dream is the starting point. Creating a priority, that tenacious passion that allows us to pursue objectives consistently, is a deeper job. There are those who have great talent but have less discipline, in which case the person must be stimulated by making them understand the values ​​of lasting commitment that allows creating real opportunities. Small goals are set, we work on fragile points and little by little awareness and passion grow, opening a glimmer of light towards which to move. One key is to believe in yourself and in the creative path as a real possibility of having a professional future ».

The main office of the school is located in Mendrisio but you have recently also opened a new collaboration in the Sopraceneri: what are the news?

«The collaboration with the sports high school of Tenero is an important step. Until a few years ago they only dealt with elite sportsmen while now they have opened up to art. For the pop and theater side, it is I who give the children the opportunity to join as elite artists to be part of this school structure where, during the canonical high school hours, artistic and scenic expression lessons are integrated ».

From these 6 years of passionate work, a film was also born, Stars, which will be released in the next few months ...

«The film started out as an end-of-year game and then became a project that is of interest to many distributions. It is a film intimately linked to the history of the school, produced by me together with the Ticino director Alberto Meroni, in collaboration with the Swiss state and RSI. The actors trained with us and are now all under management. The film is finished and is now on the tables of the largest cinema distributions: you will hear about it soon!
