Each of the 4 Consortiums proposed 2 wines from Umbria:
Orvieto
For Consortium of Orvieto wines two white wines were tasted and it could not be otherwise considering that this wine truly has a history that has also intertwined several Popes: Terroir clayey and Terroir sandy of the DOC Orvieto 2021, wines without the name of the producer, but registered in the Consortium. The municipality of Orvieto is located in the south-western sector of Umbria, in the province of Terni, about 45 km from Viterbo. Here stands a quaternary tuffaceous block relict in the volcanic caldera that houses the largest lake in Europe, that of Bolsena. In an important meeting the prof. Attilio Scienza who retraced the history of this wine which has always benefited from valuable land for the cultivation of vines: Volcanic, clayey, alluvial and sandy. The two wines enchanted the tasters.
Sagrantino
Two wines of the appellation Montefalco Sagrantino: “Filium” Spoleto DOC Trebbiano Spoletino 2020 (Valdangius) and “Terra Cupa” Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG 2017 (Romanelli). Here every year theANTEPRIMA which attracts the most important journalists of Italy and the world. The "re” of the territory is the Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG, a vine rediscovered and relaunched with a pioneering spirit by Marco Caprai, with important investments with beneficial effects on the whole territory. The DOC arrives in 1979 and in 1992 the Sagrantino di Montefalco obtains the DOCG, which will mark a turning point in the development of this important and powerful wine.
Trasimene
The wines “Opra” – Trasimeno Doc Gamay 2021 (Madrevite) and “Divina Villa” – Trasimeno Doc Gamay 2021 (Duca della Corgna) are from DOC Trasimeno which fully includes the area of 10 Municipalities around Lake Trasimeno, where the cultivation of vines has a long history. The presence of the lake has given life to a terroir which makes the Trasimeno area particularly suited to the cultivation of vines and olive trees. In recent years, attention has been paid to a red grape variety introduced in the XNUMXth century, during the period of Spanish domination: Gamay which produces a bright ruby red wine, of medium transparency and with garnet hues. The scent is intense and fruity, dominated by hints of red berried fruits; in some cases aromas of cocoa can be recognized.
Torgiano among the wines of Umbria
First in Umbria to receive DOC recognition in 1968 and then DOCG in 1990, the production area includes the entire municipality of Torgiano, in the province of Perugia. The production area occupies the hills surrounding the small village. The composition of the soil, the favorable climate and the perfect exposure to the sun make these lands particularly suited to viticulture which in this area dates back at least to the Etruscan age. In 1978 to the DOC Bianco di Torgiano and Rosso di Torgiano another was added for the Torgiano Rosso Riserva, and it is from this that, twelve years later, the DOCG was born.
