With Black Angel, in the heart of Italian Switzerland, an extraordinary wine innovation is making its appearance. It is a Merlot wine, produced in a grape variety known for the production of red wines, where the cultivation of white grapes represents a world first. Behind this bold project is a decade of hard work and dedication, driven by the vision of Angelo Delea and made possible thanks to a precious collaboration with French root cutting suppliers.
Extraordinary innovation
This wine is the result of a cross between two grape varieties, Folle Blanche and Merlot Noir, and it took several years to develop this ambitious project. Called and sponsored by the TICINO CONVENTION BUREAU, it took three years to start cultivating cuttings and reproducing them with mature scions. During this period, approximately 4.000 vines were planted, which allowed the production of the first 4.000 bottles during the 2022 harvest.
It is described as an eclectic and unique white wine. Thanks to the enthusiasm and support of the hoteliers who helped plant the first cuttings for the MICE project, we hope that it will soon become popular among customers and enthusiasts of Ticino wine.
This wine is the result of careful vinification with aging in 300 liter French oak barriques. It stands out for its fine, fresh and fragrant flavour, with a light aromaticity and elegant notes of almond toasting and vanilla, which make it an ideal choice for an aperitif or to pair with Ticino cheeses, vegetable quiches and white meats.
BLANK ANGEL is Swiss originality
This vine cannot be found elsewhere, sought after and wanted by the Delea family, and this uniqueness is reflected in the original and particular name of the wine: BLANK ANGEL.
This project represents wine excellence that is making headlines around the world and demonstrates that passion and determination can lead to incredible results in the world of wine. With BLANK ANGEL., Italian Switzerland retains its place of honor on the world map of exceptional wines.
