The theme of the respectful tourism Switzerland enters the center of the strategic debate with the launch of the initiative "Travel with care. Leave with memories." This project involves institutions, destinations, and operators with the aim of promoting a balanced coexistence between visitors, residents, and the environment.
Promoted by Switzerland Tourism together with Regional Tourism Alliance, with the support of Swiss Tourism Federation and other partners, the initiative is part of a broader policy framework aimed at making the sector more sustainable and shared.
At its core is a clear principle: tourism cannot be taken for granted, but must be built and embraced day after day.
Acceptance as a strategic lever
In the Swiss context, the population's acceptance of tourism is considered essential for its future development. It's not just about limiting negative impacts, but also ensuring that visitors' presence is perceived as an added value.
This approach is an integral part of the "Travel Better" strategy, which aims to balance economic, social, and environmental dimensions. Surveys conducted among residents show that acceptance of tourism is not automatic, but depends on concrete factors: quality of life, pressure on infrastructure, and respect for local traditions.

The channels of distribution include the company's flights Swiss International Air Lines, the airport of Zurich Airport and the railway lines of the region of Jungfrau Region.
Concrete tools for operators and destinations
Alongside communication aimed at tourists, the project introduces operational support for sector stakeholders: a "toolbox" developed to facilitate the integration of respectful tourism into daily practices.
Made with the contribution of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and supported by the program Innotour of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, the platform provides practical modules on strategy, communication, and stakeholder management.
Operational guides, checklists, and case studies allow destinations to adapt the tools to their specific territorial circumstances, while also fostering dialogue with the local population.
A widespread membership across the territory
Several actors have already joined the initiative, including Lucerne Tourism e Basel Tourism, in addition to the Jungfrau region itself. Widespread participation is one of the key elements for the project's regional roots.
The rationale is for coordinated yet flexible action, capable of adapting to different local realities without losing consistency at the national level.
Towards a shared model
Collaboration between national institutions, regional networks, and local operators forms the operational basis of the initiative. The stated goal is to transform respectful tourism into a daily practice, integrated into visitor behavior and destination strategies.
