Rabadan 2025 – the 162nd edition of this festival! – marked a new milestone for Bellinzona, transforming the city into a stage of celebration and entertainment for over 200.000 people. Thanks to the good weather and a program full of events, the most famous carnival in Italian-speaking Switzerland recorded an attendance never seen before, establishing itself as one of the most anticipated events of the year.
An edition to remember
From the first hours of the event, the city came alive with music, colors and masks. All the traditional events were a huge success, with concerts and entertainment in the Events shed in Piazza del Sole sold out. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the masked parade on Sunday, which saw the participation of about 40.000 people.
The energy and enthusiasm of the public made the event even more engaging, thanks to a day with mild temperatures that favored the presence of families and groups of friends.
Tradition and innovation: Rabathlon and risotto
Among the most popular events, the Rabathlon on Monday in Piazza Collegiata provided some hilarious moments, confirming itself as one of the most anticipated events for lovers of playful challenges.
No less exciting was the traditional Shrove Tuesday risotto: about 3.100 portions of risotto and luganighe were served in the main hall, with over 200 kg of rice used to delight the participants. The extraordinary influx required the installation of tables outside as well, promoting a convivial atmosphere.
Security and public order: Rabadan 2025 a management model
Despite the large turnout, the event took place without any particular public order problems. The number of warnings dropped by 10% compared to 2023, settling at 74. The health tent also managed the cases effectively, demonstrating the excellent organization of the event.
Sustainable mobility and recyclable glasses
FFS and TILO supported the festival with 58 special trains and 38 service extensions, ensuring the safe transport of around 95.000 travellers. The use of private cars continues to decline sharply, a sign of growing environmental awareness.
The reusable cups initiative was also a great success, with approximately 400.000 pieces sold. The city remained clean thanks to the efforts of the collection teams, a result appreciated by authorities and citizens.
Rabadan 2025: A Memorable Edition and a Look to the Future
President Giovanni Capoferri expressed great satisfaction for the result achieved: “This edition rightfully enters the history of Rabadan. The contribution of sponsors, committee, collaborators and volunteers was fundamental for the success of the event. The favorable weather did the rest, making this party unforgettable.”
The Rabadan is therefore confirmed as an essential event for Bellinzona and for the whole of Ticino. The wait for 2026 has already begun, with the promise of an even more engaging edition.
