The new season of the Monte Generoso Railway starts with 2 important innovations: the completion of the renovation of the renovated track and the official reopening of the Bellavista Buffet. To these are added the three strengths already known: the only rack railway in Ticino, the Fiore di pietra at 1704 meters and the Camping di Melano on the shores of Lake Lugano.
"Maybe because the end of the renovation work on the tracks was long awaited - says Monica Besomi, Head of Marketing & Communication and Vice-Director of the Monte Generoso Railway - and the restoration of the Buffet Bellavista has really fascinated us, but these years, albeit intense , flew by in a flash.
“In reality, between the first stroke of the pickaxe and the laying of the last element of the track, four winters passed and ten months to restore the iconic Buffet Bellavista - continues Besomi - but from 25 March and for every day, the grotto returns to be the ideal place for hikers for a refreshment stop, an aperitif or a lunch with authentic and genuine flavours. But, above all, its reopening gives momò and Ticinesi back a chest full of history, memories and emotions and everyone will be able to book it for exclusive evening parties with friends and family”.
And then there are the novelties of Camping Monte Generoso: once the renovation works of the entire sanitary block have been completed and the final adjustment of the energy efficiency systems completed, the staff is ready to reopen the gates and receive guests.
The Monte Generoso railway and attention to sustainability
Besomi continues: "The range of products we offer stands out in the Ticino tourism sector: the only rack railway in the canton, Mario Botta's Fiore di pietra, the Bellavista Buffet, the Momò memories place, and the campsite, a green oasis overlooking the lake. You're truly spoiled for choice! Most importantly, however, is that respect for the environment and sustainability always play a leading role in our company's strategy."
Even the renovation works of the 1890 track, to honor the desire to become a green destination in all respects, were supervised by a team of expert environmental engineers. 'A real secular work' which required an investment of 22 million francs, involved 150 workers, five Ticino companies and thanks to which, great news, the season will also extend during the winter.
"Over the years, our commitment has evolved from purely ecological aspects to a more global scope, encompassing social and economic dimensions," explains Chiara Brischetto, Marketing Project Manager at FMG. "Our goal today is to obtain level three of the Swisstainable certificate from Switzerland Tourism . All of our company's activities will therefore be assessed by an external body, TourCert - Travel for Tomorrow, which will determine whether we qualify for this significant recognition."

Conversations with Sustainability, the show at the top
"The leading exhibition, Conversations with Sustainability by Giacomo Braglia, will also candidly and inescapably confront us with the problems of pollution, waste disposal, and the excessive exploitation of resources," emphasizes Chiara Brischetto. "Using an innovative technique, the young Ticino artist gives three-dimensional form to his photographs and transforms them into sculptures conveying urgent messages against waste and the production of garbage. We invite everyone, especially schools, to visit the exhibition, which is open free of charge starting March 26th. It's even possible to book a guided tour with the artist."
The events at the summit and at the campsite
To attract guests to the summit of Monte Generoso, in addition to the breathtaking panorama, will be the many events in the carnet for the whole season.
Starting from the opening weekend of 25 and 26 March which offers the unmissable 50% discount on tickets for all routes and the special price for the traditional Ticino menu at the Bellavista Buffet.
Adults and children are also expected at the Fiore di pietra by the Corni dal Generus and the Circus of the Magician Tonino.
Scheduled for the following weeks, the Sunset Apéro is back by popular demand, declined in various ways with the Country or Reggae or Best Music Night with the famous MAXI B, the Dinners with Crime, the VettaBrunch and the sophisticated Wine&Dine tastings with the selection of wines Ticino.
However, there is no shortage of novelties such as the Monochromatic Dinners, the Dress Code Parties and the Yoga Face sessions for a rediscovered well-being. In the open air, on the other hand, the guided excursions of the Via Ferrata alternate with walks to discover the wild herbs of Monte Generoso.
