The Via Francisca, an ancient path that connects Disentis to Novara, is enriched by a new cross-border initiative that aims to enhance the historical, cultural and food and wine heritage of this pleasant region between Ticino, Lombardy and Piedmont.
The project Tra-Me – Traces of Wonders along the Way Francisca was presented yesterday – January 28, 2025 – to the press and sees the collaboration of the Bellinzona Regional Tourist Organization and Alto Ticino (OTR BAT) and the Municipality of Omegna.
The goal is clear: to transform the Via Francisca into a sustainable tourist destination, capable of attracting visitors through a unique cultural and gastronomic offer. Among the main partners of the project are the Association of Friends of the Via Francisca del Lucomagno, the Association Blenio Bellissima and the Spada nella Rocca, who will contribute with their know-how to the success of the initiative.
Between-Me: a journey through history and ancient flavours
One of the most original aspects of Between-Me is the rediscovery of medieval cuisine thanks to the figure of Maestro Martino, a famous chef from Blenio considered one of the fathers of Italian gastronomy. The restaurants along the route will be able to offer a recipe book inspired by his creations, enriching the visitor experience with authentic flavors of the past. In addition, a “Wall of Fame” will be created to pay homage to the chefs who are inspired by his culinary tradition.
Experiential tourism will play a central role in the project. Theatrical guided tours, historical reenactments and animations are planned, thanks to the collaboration with local associations. The aim is to involve the public in an interactive journey through castles, sanctuaries, museums, churches and fortifications, transforming each stop on the Via Francisca into a living story.
Two infrastructures for an ambitious project
To support this initiative, two strategic infrastructures will be created: the Casa Maestro Martino in the Blenio Valley and the Multimedia Cultural Center on Slow and Sustainable Tourism in Omegna. The first will be a center dedicated to historical documentation and medieval gastronomy, with an educational kitchen for thematic courses. The second will offer meeting spaces, a thematic library and a digital system to make information on the Via Francisca and its wonders accessible to all.
A bridge between territories
“Tra-Me embodies the spirit of the Interreg cross-border programme – underlined Stefano Rizzi, Director of the Economy Division, during the presentation of the project – promoting a shared vision that goes beyond borders”.
According to Juri Clericetti, General Manager of OTR BAT, the initiative is important and cutting-edge: "this project - the manager told journalists - represents a unique opportunity for the development of the region's tourist and cultural product".
The mayor of Omegna reiterated the value of collaboration between partners: “We will work with passion to ensure that this cooperation brings tangible benefits to our territories”.
