Every year, at the arrival of November, Mendrisio comes alive with the San Martino Fair, one of the most heartfelt and long-running events in the Canton of Ticino. Its origins date back to the 17th century, when the Swiss Superior Council granted the village the right to organize a fair in the San Martino meadows. Since then, the event has transformed into a true popular festival, capable of blending tradition, agriculture, craftsmanship and sociality.
In 2025, the fair will renew its role as a showcase for local excellence and for those organizations that contribute to the region's growth. Among these, Mendrisiotto Turismo will have its own dedicated space for dialogue with visitors, residents, and the curious.
Mendrisiotto Tourism: A meeting point at the San Martino Fair
The tourist board stand will be open from Saturday 8th to Tuesday 11th November, welcoming the public with opening hours between 10.00 and 18.00 (until 17.00pm on the last day).
This event is designed not only to showcase the season's offerings, but also to foster direct contact with those who live in or visit the region.
Visitors to the stand will be able to learn about local promotion projects , learn about sustainable tourism initiatives , and, for the more curious, discover a new interactive game designed to showcase Mendrisiotto's attractions. Membership will also be available and support the organization, which has been working for years to highlight the region's natural, cultural, and food and wine resources.
A tradition that looks forward
The San Martino Fair is more than just a folkloristic event: it's a living part of the collective identity, also recognized as one of Switzerland's Living Traditions . For Mendrisiotto Turismo, its participation isn't simply a showcase, but a form of dialogue with the local area , where tourism becomes a tool for valorization and sustainability.
"Events like this," the promoters emphasize, "help maintain a balance between economic development and respect for local culture."
In a context where tourism promotion is increasingly moving towards digitalization and experientialism, the Fiera di San Martino remains a place where human encounters and conviviality continue to be central.
An appointment not to be missed
Mendrisiotto Turismo therefore invites all interested parties to visit its stand during the Fiera di San Martino 2025 , to discover first-hand what southern Ticino has to offer: from the vineyard-covered hills to the cycle paths, from nature destinations to gastronomic experiences that tell the story of an authentic and welcoming region.
An event that, between past and future, once again confirms Mendrisiotto's ability to combine roots and innovation in the spirit of collective participation.
