Today the patriciate officially presented the start of the renovation works of the Alpe di Caviano, which should finish in the autumn of next year, allowing the structure to be operational by the end of the year and be definitively integrated into the offer of the Albergo Diffuso del Monte Generoso.
"Ul Cavian" is a place particularly dear to the Momò and even more to the patricians of Castel San Pietro - who are the owners of the land and the existing structure and who some years have dedicated many hours of work to the arrangement of this old building, which a time it was a stable.
After the first renovation in 2013, the refuge, which is currently closed, was managed by the patricians for a few years and the building, which was originally built to carry out agricultural activities, is now ready to be further entirely transformed, even though it concerns the adjacent building which was once a barn.
To reach it, you have to walk along the path that connects Castel San Pietro with the Bellavista of Monte Generoso and from where it is possible to admire a panorama that sweeps between Milan (the Duomo and the highest buildings of the metropolis are clearly visible), passing through the Po Valley, Monviso on the border with France and the entire Monte Rosa group.

The Alpe di Caviano renovation project is part of a wider project for networking and sharing communication activities: the Albergo Diffuso del Monte Generoso. A project born as part of the Master Plan, carried out in 2017 by the Regional Tourist Organization in collaboration with the municipalities of Castel San Pietro, Breggia and Mendrisio, to analyze the tourist experience on Monte Generoso, which allowed to focus, among other things, another, the need to think and create a synergistic management and promotion model of the accommodation facilities in the Monte Generoso area, from Sighignola to Bisbino. At the same time, with the promotion of the modification of the Monte Generoso PUC and in the face of the renunciation of the construction of holiday houses in the Pianezzo area (project approved), the patriciate had to evaluate the opportunity to further develop the offer of the Alpe di Caviano which, as foreseen by the PUC, from a mountain agricultural area would become a tourist area, also renovating the part of the building adjacent to the refuge.
"It was 2017 when the Director of the OTRMBC , Nadia Lupi," recalled the president of the patriciate, Dario Frigerio, "contacted me to submit a proposal to the patriciate aimed at revitalizing tourist accommodation in the large Monte Generoso area, and in particular addressing the shortage of accommodations. The patriciate's office and the assembly, after having approved the principle of co-financing the implementation of the "Albergo Diffuso del Monte Generoso" project, worked on it side by side with Nadia, Oscar Piffaretti, and Claudio Zanini, who were following three projects in Scudellate and immediately collaborating with the Canton's economic development office."
The support of the OTR and the Economic Development Office was constant throughout the period and contributed to consolidating the financial plan both as regards the construction of the structures and the networking project.
