There are many objectives that this competition has set itself. Enhance the lakeside atmospheres as a perfect setting for detective and noir novels, offer a showcase - completely free, since this is one of the few literary competitions that does not require a payment from the participants - to the first-time authors, but also create a cultural bridge between the province of Varese and the city of Lugano.
This is why the event was presented to the LAC by the mayor of the capital Michele Folletti, by the deputy mayor Roberto Badaracco and by Carla De Albertis and Jenny Santi organizing committee. The competition is in fact supported by many public and private entities and sponsored at the same time by both the Municipality of Lugano and that of Varese.
“The City of Lugano - comments the Mayor Michael Foletti - immediately accepted the proposal to sponsor Ceresio in Giallo, the idea of enhancing and highlighting our lake landscapes through literary works in Italian is an original way to highlight the Insubric Region and encourage cross-border exchanges also on the cultural plan ".
“The international context of Ceresio in Giallo - he declares Jenny Santi of the Organizing Committee and former mayor of Porto Ceresio - and the presence of an Italian-Swiss jury are among the peculiarities of the competition, underlining a common desire to preserve and spread the Italian language and, through yellow texts, also promote the beautiful places overlooking the lakes in both countries ".
The organizers of the event reap the benefits of the great success achieved in the last edition, with 421 competing works between published and unpublished works and the victory of Piergiorgio Pulixi, Sardinian crime writer of great European fame.
The new section dedicated to children
“The idea of Junior Yellow - Explains Carla De Albertis, of the Organizing Committee - arises from the observation of the difficult situation that our young people are experiencing. By inserting small groups of young people coordinated by qualified jurors in the jury, we wanted to enhance and involve them, convey to them the passion for reading while developing a critical sense. "
The jury
Among the merits of this award, as also remembered by the most famous authors who participated in the last edition, there is certainly the careful selection of the members of the jury who make this event an event of great literary value.
This year, the president of the jury will be the Italian Ambassador to Switzerland Silvio Mignano, who commented on his role as follows: "Yellow is something more than a category in which it tends to be enclosed, it is literature in the highest and most broad of the term, I am really happy and honored to preside over the international jury of Ceresio in Giallo. In difficult times, complex for all of us we need art and literature ".
