His artistic work was not found in museums, studios or galleries: his works were just an experience to be shared made of Trouvailles Ri-Enlivened by ironic phrases whose double meanings defused any interpretation, they played with language freely and didn't allude to anything. But they drew a smile at the brilliance of the game, which was anything but predictable.
Who didn't make an offer, a few pennies for scraps of canvas, stones painted with markers in plastic bags, N arcisi of rock in water contained in a Tupperware and that half-price Picasso so recurrent in his drawings: they were “I n-fractions” that played with common dialectics.
Now he has left us and his art is truly for everyone, as he wanted, for all those who appreciated his work, exchanged a few words with him and took home a souvenir.
Rubbish: I saw it for the first time inside the Ara Pacis (and not outside) during the presentation of the catalogue edited by Achille Bonito Oliva. (Fausto delle Chiaie, “Art? Rubbish”, Electa, 2010) who had understood its greatness, as the initiator of a modern art made of waste and within everyone's reach.
His Narcissus, Beauty in the Envelope, and The Man Responsible for Everything are just some of the works that will remain in our hearts, and those who were fortunate enough to know him will never forget that Italy has not only lost the true guardian of the Ara Pacis, but that his selfless and sincere humanity truly brought art to everyone's hearts.
