Processo Galileo is the fruit of the writing of Angela Dematté and Fabrizio Sinisi, their first collaborative work, alongside playwright Simona Gonella. The work premieres at the LAC in Lugano.
The actors, the directors, the staging of Galileo process

A work of which they are protagonists:
- Luca Lazzareschi and Milvia Marigliano, actors with solid experience;
- Isacco Venturini, formerly in the cast of important productions;
- Catherine Bertoni de Laet, Giovanni Drago and Roberta Ricciardi.
The work makes use of an 'admittedly installation' staging by the scenographer Daniele Spanò, the luminous dramaturgy by Pasquale Mari, the sound project by GUP Alcaro and the costumes by Margherita Baldoni.
The result of an unprecedented artistic and productive collaboration in the theatrical scene, Processo Galileo was born from a singular coincidence: Andrea De Rosa, director of TPE – Teatro Piemonte Europa, and Carmelo Rifici, artistic director of LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura, were both working on the relationship between theater and science, a theme prompted by the recent pandemic crisis.
Taking note of the happy coincidence, the two directors, distant in training, styles and aesthetics, but similar in artistic sensibility, confronted each other by deciding to measure themselves against the experience of collective direction.
The writing of Galileo process
The work investigates the figure and the thought of the famous Tuscan scientist and does so starting from his life, from the acts of the trial he underwent and from the sentence of the Holy Inquisition, events that guided the writing work of the two authors. A dense writing, which develops the narration in three sequences, each of which corresponds to as many processes that, through temporal shifts, investigate the destinies and questions of the contemporary world.
A prologue , set in the historical past in which the abjuration takes place: the words of Galileo's trial in 1633, with its characters and its language, act as a starting point and a point of irradiation for the various themes at play – the relationship between science and power, tradition, conscience.
A present in which a young woman, a mother and an intellectual, is asked to write for a popular magazine about the new paradigm science is establishing today; the family mourning she is dealing with causes a short circuit with the conversations she has with a scientist and his mother, forcing her to embark on a broader journey that challenges her worldview. A future in which all realism crumbles and the characters become the voices of an invective against a Galileo who is no longer seen as merely the defendant in an ecclesiastical tribunal, but as the spokesperson for a historical and cultural process that has inextricably linked scientific research with technical prowess, forever welding a society's idea of progress to the power of its technological devices.
Galileo's telescope thus becomes the instrument of a revolution which, which began in the XNUMXth century, projects the world into a future which is in many ways disturbing.
The director's notes by De Rosa and Rifici
"In first part (written jointly by the two authors ed), Angela - a young researcher who is our alter ego on the scene - analyzes the historical material that documents the trial of Galileo by the Inquisition, together with fragments of the Dialogue of maximum systems and to the beautiful and passionate letters that Virginia wrote from the convent to her father.
In the second (written by Dematté) Angela faces the dramatic attempt to reconcile her desire for knowledge with her being a daughter and a mother.
In the third (written by Sinisi), he finally gives voice to the philosophical and political concerns regarding a future in which “machines” will be an increasingly integral part of our lives.”
