OSI concert at LAC: an evening of musical emotions with Schumann and Beethoven

For health reasons, David Afkham replaces David Zinman as conductor, in this precious performance dedicated to the two famous German composers and musicians

In the magical atmosphere of the Sala Teatro del LAC in Lugano, the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana (OSI) continues its concert season with an extraordinary event which will be held on Thursday 14 March 2024 at 20.30 pm. A concert dedicated entirely to two giants of classical music: Robert Schumann and Ludwig van Beethoven.

The long-awaited evening promised the presence of the renowned conductor David Zinman, however, due to health reasons, the maestro had to cancel his participation. But music knows no obstacles, and to replace him, the OSI has the privilege of welcoming to the podium the talented David Afkham, current musical director of the National Orchestra of Spain.

The program remains unchanged, with Schumann and Beethoven taking the audience by the hand on a journey through the depths of the human soul and the beauty of nature. The evening's first act will feature renowned cellist Truls Mørk (pictured) as soloist, performing Schumann's captivating Cello Concerto in A minor, Op. 129. Mørk, with his mastery and sensitivity, will deliver a performance that promises to touch the audience's most intimate chords.

In the second part of the concert, Afkham will lead the orchestra in a performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 in F major, Op. 68, also known as the Pastoral . A masterpiece that captures the essence of country life and celebrates the beauty of nature with unparalleled power and emotion.

The concert will be broadcast live on radio on RSI Rete Due, offering a wider audience the opportunity to experience the emotion of live music. The event is made possible thanks to the generous support of Cornèr Bank.
