LuganoMusica: Daniele Gatti conducts the Mozart Orchestra

On Easter days, the traditional LuganoMusica appointment offers this year a romantic program dedicated to Wagner and Brahms

Daniele Gatti has been appointed new principal conductor of the Staatskapelle of Dresden, one of the oldest and most prestigious realities in the world.
During the Easter period he returns to the LAC, leading the Mozart Orchestra. The concert is scheduled for Thursday 13 April at 20:30, at the LAC Sala Teatro.

The concert program is very rich in harmony and spring pleasure: on the one hand Wagner and the famous Siegfried Idyll, a declaration of love to his wife Cosima, on her birthday. The beloved was awakened by very sweet music performed by a string quintet directed by Wagner himself.

The emotional range of the two equally well-known works by Brahms is no less: the Variations on a theme by Haydn op. 56a and above all the Symphony n. 4 in minor op. 98. Considered the greatest masterpiece of his, and perhaps of the whole symphonic repertoire, the fourth symphony exudes energy with every note and listening to him is pure joy of spirit and mood.

The Mozart Orchestra, the city of Lugano, and the audiences at LuganoMusica have a long-standing partnership. A unique institution in Europe, the Mozart was founded by Abbado in 2004 and has now become a deeply shared project of artists who have grown up together. "It's a fresh, youthful, joyful, and wonderful way of making music. Enormous energy, combined with great skill, with that sparkle in everyone's eyes that makes it all so special. We always look forward to playing together again," says concertmaster Raphael Christ.

After the death of Claudio Abbado and the experience with the great Dutch conductor Bernard Haitink, since 2019 the Orchestra has been led by Daniele Gatti, one of the most appreciated Italian conductors at an international level. In his words: «This orchestra creates a privileged relationship, I would say unique, with its director. It is a great stimulus to know that a group of musicians of this level have as a common denominator the desire to dedicate themselves to this special project with me. I'm happy to be part of it."
