The 2024/25 LuganoMusica season promises to be an extraordinary experience, marking the tenth edition of a musical journey that ranges from the Baroque to the contemporary masterpieces of Luciano Berio. The rich programme, which opens on Thursday 12 September 2024 and ends on 16 June 2025, will feature some of the most famous names on the international music scene.

First-rate conductors and orchestras

The season will open with the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich conducted by Paavo Järvi and the young cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason. The evening's program includes Shostakovich's Cello Concerto and Symphony No. 1 by Mahler. Other guest orchestras include the Budapest Festival Orchestra conducted by Iván Fischer with pianist Kirill Gerstein, the Philarmonia Orchestra of London led by Santtu-Matias Rouvali and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra with Lahav Shani, who will also perform as pianist.

Great performers

Numerous internationally renowned soloists will grace the LAC stage, including Beatrice Rana, Janine Jansen, Leonidas Kavakos, Christian Tetzlaff and Nikolaj Lugansky. Maria João Pires will celebrate her 80th birthday with a special concert together with the Festival Strings Lucerne, directed by Daniel Dodds.

New generation at LuganoMusica 2024/25

LuganoMusica continues to enhance young talents with the “Nuova Generazione” event, which will see performances by Martina Consonni, Sarah Jégou-Sageman and Anna Sypniewski of the Capuçon Foundation, as well as Sean Shibe and Giuseppe Gibboni.

Reviews and festivals

The season also includes numerous thematic reviews:

  • LuganoMusica Ensemble: Musical laboratory that brings together teachers from the Conservatory and musicians from the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana.
  • Quartets Weekend: Three evenings dedicated to the string quartet with the Jack Quartet, the Modigliani Quartet and the Carmina Quartett.
  • EAR (Electro Acoustic Room): Series of concerts dedicated to electronic and electroacoustic music.
  • Early Night Modern: Meetings that blend music, light, dance and movement, celebrating among other things the centenary of Luciano Berio's birth.

Special events

The season will not lack special events, such as the concert celebrating 10 years of Superar Suisse with over 200 young musicians directed by Carlo Taffuri and Pino Raduazzo, and the closing with the legendary Philarmonia Orchestra directed by Santtu-Matias Rouvali, who will present a program which includes Ravel and Respighi.

Conferences and meetings

A busy calendar of conferences and meetings with artists will further enrich the season. Among the speakers, Giovanni Gavazzeni will explore the relationship between great conductors and Switzerland, while Enrico Parola will lead the "Musical Chats" before the most important concerts.

Integration with the LAC

This tenth season marks a crucial moment with the integration of LuganoMusica within the LAC, an important step towards the creation of a multidisciplinary cultural center in the heart of Lugano.
