Wednesday 29 May at 20pm, on LAC of Lugano it will be the scene of one of the most anticipated events of the concert season: the return of Vladimir Yurovsky at the helm of the Bayerisches Staatsorchester. After the memorable 2017 concert with the London Philharmonic, Yurovsky returns to Ticino to conduct a program that ranges from the works of Carl Maria von Weber, Ludwig van Beethoven and Robert Schumann.

The evening will open with Carl Maria von Weber's Oberon Overture , a work that evokes fairytale and mythological atmospheres, reflecting the tranquil solemnity of the German lands. This will be followed by Beethoven 's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73 , also known as the Emperor Concerto , performed by Emanuel Ax (pictured). Ax, an internationally renowned pianist, began his brilliant career by winning the Arthur Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv in 1974 and the prestigious Avery Fisher Prize in 1979. The grandeur and heroism of Beethoven's Fifth Piano Concerto, which stands as the most famous and beloved in the European concert tradition, promises to enchant audiences.

The concert will conclude with Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, Op. 97 , better known as the Rhenish Symphony . This symphony, with its majestic tones and deep roots in the culture of the Rhine, will provide a magnificent conclusion to the evening.

The Bayerisches Staatsorchester, which celebrates its five hundred years of existence, confirms itself as a pillar of the European and international orchestral panorama. With a history that intertwines opera, symphonic and concert activity, the ensemble is a symbol of excellence and tradition, linked to the prestigious Munich Opera House. Vladimir Yurovsky, appointed musical director in autumn 2021, has taken up Kirill Petrenko's legacy, carrying forward an artistic vision of great concentration and depth, which makes him one of the most respected conductors of our time.
