It all kicks off on the evening of Tuesday, July 13, with the bold and original French-American pianist and composer Dan Tepfer, also known as an astrophysicist. For the LAC , he will perform Natural Machines , his new concert in which free improvisations on the Disklavier interact with a computer program developed by the pianist himself, providing real-time sonic and visual responses to the music and creating a unique and evocative intersection between seemingly disparate worlds.
The next day, Wednesday 14 July, it will be the turn of the Ensemble France Varpet which will give the audience of the LAC a concert of traditional Armenian music. “On the border between West and East - explain the organizers - Armenia has a rich musical heritage, of which the duduk represents the essence; it is a double-reed wind instrument, recognized by UNESCO in 2005 as a masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity ”.
For Armenian musicians, the duduk is the instrument that best represents the warmth, hope but also the sadness of their culture. The concert features several traditional Armenian pieces for duduk and percussion.
On Thursday 15 July we will instead listen to the Ensemble Salon Passion, composed of musicians from the Tonhalle in Zurich, in a light-hearted concert, with lounge music and dances: an authentic late 800th century entertainment, in which melodies and harmonies accompany the summer evening outdoors, under the starry sky. From the rediscovery of the sheet music collection of the Knokkele-Zoute Belgian salon orchestra, Salon Passion creates its programs starting from small jewels, nostalgic witnesses of bygone eras.
Friday 16 July on the occasion of the exhibition dedicated to the winner of the Bally Artist of the Year Award 2020: Salvatore Vitale. Displaying Security, MASI Lugano, in collaboration with the Bally Foundation for Culture, proposes a talk between the artist Vitale and the cyber security expert Florian Egloff, moderated by Lars Willumeit, head of the exhibition projects at the Musée de l'Elysée Lausanne, which will address issues such as the role of the state in the security of the country, how this arises with respect to the areas in which security is involved, for example the economy and society, or what are the boundaries of responsibility of each area and how these are visually represented.
The week concludes on Saturday, July 17, with SOLO , a must-see solo by Israel Galván, the extraordinary flamenco dancer and undisputed innovator of this popular Andalusian dance, which he has revisited in both form and content, departing from the beaten path while respecting tradition. On stage, Galván takes center stage in a radical experience, dancing alone, without musical accompaniment or any other support, marking the rhythm of the dance with the simple yet virtuoso assistance of his hands and feet, seeking to restore dance to its essence. This experiment has also been performed at the Hermès Foundation for Dance in Paris, the Dia Art Foundation in New York, and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.
