Lake Lugano has been the backdrop for novels, films and fiction, thanks to its beauty and above all to its evocative power. Thanks to the Giallo Stresa award, our lake will be able to experience a new further moment of literary luster thanks to all those stories that will choose it as their setting.

How to participate

If you are one of those who have a lake story ready in the drawer - the prize is open to all -, this is the time to propose it, hoping that it will be the winner of the competition and be published in the prestigious “Giallo Mondadori” series.

  • The works must be unpublished, they must never have been published even online, and between 15 and 000 characters in length, including spaces.
  • Each author can participate with more works
  • Stories must be sent by e-mail in Arial 12 a word font format giallostresa2021@gmail.com. Personal data, a short curriculum vitae, the contact details of the author and the synopsis of the story with an indication of the places of setting must be sent on a separate sheet.
  • Three copies of the story and personal data must be sent to: Yellow Competition Stresa 2021 - c / o IAT - Tourist Office "City of Stresa" - Piazza Marconi, 16 - 28838 Stresa (VB) no later than May 31, 2021 together with the Certificate di Partecipazione (CdP) cut out of the original, which can be found in the last pages of Il Giallo Mondadori (small triangle in the lower left corner of the page with the editorials of the series). An original coupon must be sent for each story. 5) The works will not be returned.
  • The stories will be screened by a pre-jury composed of Alberto Bellocco, Maria Elisa Gualandris, Maurizio Leone, Ambretta Sampietro and Massimo Verzotto who will determine 20 finalists. The winner will be chosen by a final jury, chaired by the editorial director of the Mondadori newsstand series Franco Forte and composed of Gerardo Placido, Andrea Fazioli, Carmen Giorgetti Cima, Luigi Pachì. The names of the finalists will be announced on June 26, 2021.
  • The winning story will be published in the Giallo Mondadori series and will be awarded on 18 September 2021 during an ad hoc event to be held in Stresa.
  • The winner will also receive a work by the artist Massimo Sala.
  • The story that best expresses the atmosphere of the lake will be awarded the “Voce del lago” prize which consists in the creation of an audio interpretation of the story created by the actor Gerardo Placido and published online.
  • Up for grabs various stays, overnight stays, entrances to wellness centers, lunches and dinners, experiences to live in the area, books, CDs, objects as per the attached list. 10) The prizes must be collected personally during the events and can only be used by the winners. 11) The jury's decision is unquestionable, no type of appeal is envisaged. 

The promoters

The Department of Culture and Tourism of the City of Stresa organizes in collaboration with the Giallo Mondadori, with the patronage of the Province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, the Regio Insubrica Working Community, the Tourist District of the Lakes, the Industrial Union of Verbano Cusio Ossola, the People's Association of Lago e di Fiume, Terre Borromeo, Soroptimist International Club Verbano the 2021 edition of the Giallo Stresa literary competition for unpublished yellow stories set in a well-identified lake location in Piedmont, Lombardy and Italian Switzerland written in Italian.
