Artist of Russian origins, he spends the last part of his life in Ascona, deeply bonding with the village and the territory, Werefkin is one of the undisputed protagonists of the first expressionist avant-gardes of the early twentieth century, for too long not considered as such as a woman . Numerous initiatives and meetings on the sidelines of the exhibition are dedicated to the theme of women in collaboration with Amnesty International and with the associations AvaEva and AARDT (Archivio Riuniti delle Donne Ticino). As usual, the activities for the little ones also continue with guided tours for children aged 3 to 10 and creative workshops in collaboration with the Museo in Erba. The exhibition, open from Monday to Saturday from 10 to 18 with free admission, will retrace the career of Marianne Werefkin, through about forty works, some of which have never before been exhibited in public, representative of the different stages of her life and of her wanderings between Russia, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. Also on display are some works by Werefkin's companion, the painter Alexej Jawlensky. The set-up is made by Arch. Eleonora Castagnetta Botta. Russian artist, born in 1860 in Tula, Werefkin was the protagonist, for a long time underestimated, of the European artistic evolution of the 900th century. She is the true soul of the German expressionist group Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider), which brings together Kandinsky, Marc, Klee, Macke and Jawlensky. With the outbreak of the First World War he moved to Switzerland. He died in Ascona in 1938 where he left an indelible memory of his passage throughout the community. "For our seventh exhibition we chose Marianne Werefkin, not only because she is an artist so closely linked to our territory - says Patrizia Cattaneo Moresi, Director of Artrust - but because, in a year that we wanted to dedicate to women in the world of art, with her biography represents an example of the difficulties of being a woman and at the same time an artist at the beginning of the last century. So much so that Werefkin's charisma and talent have only recently begun to occupy the place they deserve in art history manuals ».

Numerous initiatives and meetings are planned on the sidelines of the exhibition. Furthermore, as in previous exhibitions, Artrust will organize dedicated visits and a series of educational-artistic workshops for children aged 3 to 10.
