We are in the AION Art Center gallery in Ascona to admire the latest works by Gibus Scatizza-Fauquex, an exhibition he shares with the artist John Doing. Numerous works are exhibited and undoubtedly full of inspiration and inventiveness, qualities that the two artists demonstrate in every stroke. Gibus transports us to a world that is always innovative: each of his exhibitions is a surprise that never fails to attract a large and varied audience curious to find out what the new tables of this 43rd exhibition will reveal.
And this time it is enough to look at the works to understand that we are in front of something very original: the background always on canvas, however, has in front of it a close-up made on a transparent Plexiglas plate, mounted on rails that give us the possibility to move it sideways, to obtain a three-dimensional view that changes as the plate moves. Flair and imagination with a touch of audacity. Quality that Gibus puts into everything he does. A tireless painter and writer, she has recently successfully presented her latest novel "The Elevator". Set in the Valais (his canton of origin) of his youth in the 60-70s, a liberalized era that moves away from taboos, starting with those on sex. Gian Carlo Dillena describes it in clear and flattering words in his preface, while Cristina Bonzanigo and Sussy Errera comment on it with great brio.
These are the most significant moments of Gibus, this multifaceted artist who has been able to amaze with her imagination along her artistic journey over all these years. It begins with its first exhibition in 1979, in Geneva. In 1985 at the Hôtel Splendide in Lugano, he presented his tables "The Alphabet of Love" accompanied by 24 poems by Gritsko Mascioni. 1985-85: “The Christmas Tree” (4 meters high), in the square of the Overland Trust Bank, made of Plexiglas and steel with its 50 numbered copies for customers made for the Bic, Audemars and Cartier companies. 1999: “Watercolors and Poems” La Fenice Lugano, where he proposes his first collection of poems and, with ease, watercolors of veiled naked women.
During the preparation of the exhibition "All that glitters is not gold", his famous "Hens with Golden Eggs" are successfully born, which obviously are found in the 3D version with the foreground on a plexi plate that makes them even more funny. In recent years, Gibus has increasingly tried his hand at writing: his first yellow-tinted novel was born, “La Lettera”, set in Lugano and Kenya with an introduction by the then mayor Giorgio Giudici. A new collection of poems “Cielo-Terra-Mare”, “Ciel-Terre-Mer” follows. Poems born both in his mother tongue, French, and in that of adoption.
