When a photography enthusiast and an avid break dancer meet, artistic madness can be born, such as Levitation. It is the case of Fabrice Bouverat and Mattia Kaufmann who – in an exhibition entitled Levitation, on view until 30 January 2023 in Lugano – invite the visitor to take a real leap into their universe: a magical place where perspectives, force of gravity, references and cardinal points they get confused, get lost and rebuild.
Mattia jumps and Fabrice immortalizes him suspended in the air: a very simple formula for a result that is far from obvious and very poetic. "No tricks, there is no Photoshop" - says the author of the photographs - "everything is real: the jump, a position in the air, the shot of the photo and then, what you can't see in the photos: the fall to the ground by Matthias. But without ever getting hurt, because even knowing how to fall is an art”.
“Exactly” – continues the protagonist of the photos – “Falling is still tiring, but I enjoyed jumping for Fabrice's goal so much, that I got up in a hurry to take more pictures again. Fabrice is very perfectionist, besides my jump, he made sure all the elements of the scene were in the right place, as he imagined them. This, coupled with the fact that in a jump there is only a fraction of a second to 'stop time' in mid-air, meant that some jumps had to be repeated several times, but it was really worth it!”.
The 16 photographs of the collection to be discovered, set between Locarno and Lugano, will be visible until the end of January: a visit – to stay on the subject – to the Lady of the Rings in Via Cattedrale 6 in Lugano – is strongly recommended!
